Chapter 9 - The Valley House

Six months later. Spring 2026 arrived in the valley with a breathtaking explosion of green fields, blooming wildflowers, and bright blue skies.

With the settlement from the Vale Corporation and the title to the old Cole family property, Leo and Mrs. Chen moved into a beautiful, historic farmhouse surrounded by five acres of rolling hills and ancient oak trees. The house had a big wrap-around porch, a massive kitchen that always smelled of fresh baking, and bright windows that let in the warm morning sun.

Mr. Hale had become a constant fixture in their lives, visiting every weekend to help Leo build a wooden treehouse in the largest oak tree or teach him how to fish in the nearby stream.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the backyard was filled with life. The official grand opening of the Marianne Cole Sanctuary foundation was being celebrated, and dozens of mothers and children from the local shelter were running across the green lawn, their laughter filling the clean air.

Leo stood by the porch railing, watching a young mother guide her toddler across the grass. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the old photograph, which Mr. Hale had beautifully preserved in a protective, silver frame.

"She would love this place, Leo," Mr. Hale said, walking up beside him with two glasses of fresh lemonade.

"She’s here, Mr. Hale," Leo smiled, looking up at the bright green leaves of the oak tree rustling in the warm breeze. "She’s in every single room of this house."
