Chapter 9 - A Legacy of Light

The sun was setting over the lake, casting a breathtaking golden light across the botanical gardens as the string quartet played a soft, beautiful melody.

I walked down the white marble aisle, my lace train gliding smoothly over the petals scattered on the stone path.

At the altar stood Damian. He looked incredibly handsome in a black tuxedo, his dark eyes filled with an intense, devotion-filled warmth as he watched me walk toward him.

Standing on either side of the altar were our three children.

Leo and Mateo, now almost two years old, stood proudly in matching white ring-bearer suits, holding small velvet pillows. Little Sophia stood right beside Damian, wearing a tiny white flower-girl dress, her chubby hands clutching a basket of yellow roses.

When I reached the altar, Damian stepped forward, taking my hands into his.

The priest spoke words of love, honor, and eternal commitment, but my eyes never left Damian’s face.

"Elena," Damian spoke his vows, his voice low, steady, and thick with emotion. "I spent my life surrounded by shadows, believing that power was the only thing that could keep a man alive. You walked into my life carrying three broken angels, and you showed me that true power is the strength to protect the people you love. I promise to cherish you, honor you, and shield our family with my life, until my last breath."

Tears of joy slipped down my cheeks as I squeezed his hands tight.

"Damian," I replied softly, my voice echoing clearly through the quiet garden. "Fourteen months ago, I thought my heart was buried in a cold grave. You didn't just save my children—you gave me a home, a purpose, and a love I never thought I deserved. I give you my heart, my life, and my eternal devotion."

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Damian didn't wait a second. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me slightly as he pressed his lips to mine in a passionate, breathtaking kiss that sent cheers echoing from the guests gathered in the garden.

The children immediately ran over, Leo and Mateo grabbing Damian’s pant legs, while little Sophia reached up, pulling on my lace gown with a bright, beaming smile.

"Mama! Papa!" Sophia squealed happily.

Damian picked up Leo and Mateo, while I gathered Sophia into my arms. Together, the five of us stood at the altar, bathed in the warm, golden light of the setting sun.
