Chapter 8 - The Confrontation at the Falcone Estate

By 9:00 AM, the financial strike launched using Marcus’s ledger had paralyzed Gianna Falcone’s faction. Federal agents had seized three of his primary shipping terminals and frozen sixty million dollars in offshore assets.
Panicked and cornered, Gianna called an emergency meeting of the Syndicate High Council at the historic Falcone ancestral estate downtown—the very place where Nico’s father had ruled twenty years ago.
A fleet of black armored SUVs pulled up to the iron gates of the estate at noon.
Nico stepped out of the lead vehicle, wearing an immaculate three-piece charcoal suit, a dark silk tie, and an aura of absolute dominance. Beside him stepped Claire, stunning in a tailored emerald-green coat, her hair pinned back, looking every bit the ruling matriarch of the Falcone empire.
They walked hand in hand into the grand marble ballroom, where twelve family capos and senior council elders sat around a massive mahogany table.
At the head of the table sat Gianna Falcone—an older, gray-haired man with mean, fox-like eyes, surrounded by six heavily armed bodyguards.
"Nico," Gianna sneered, leaning back in his leather chair. "You dare bring a civilian woman into the High Council chamber? Have you forgotten our traditions?"
Nico walked up to the foot of the table, his hand remaining firmly clasped in Claire’s.
"Claire is not a civilian woman, Uncle," Nico declared, his deep voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "She is my wife. She is the mother of the future head of this family. And she holds more courage in her small finger than you have in your entire coward’s frame."
The council elders whispered among themselves, taking in Claire’s calm, fearless posture.
Gianna’s face flushed with rage. "You betrayed the family! You brought federal agents onto our shipping docks this morning using Marcus’s stolen files!"
"I purged a virus, Gianna," Nico corrected smoothly, pulling a thick stack of bank documents from his coat and throwing them onto the center of the table. "These records prove that Gianna has been skimming fifteen percent from every capo’s territory for three years to fund his private militia."
The room erupted into furious shouting. The capos stood up, glaring at Gianna with murderous rage.
"Is this true, Gianna?!" old Capo Bruno shouted, slamming his fist onto the table. "You stole from our children?!"
Gianna panicked, pulling a hidden firearm from beneath his jacket and pointing it directly at Nico. "Silence! I am the senior Falcone! I rule this family!"
Before Gianna could pull the trigger, Claire stepped fluidly in front of Nico, holding up her hand, holding a tiny, glowing electronic detonator.
"Touch that trigger, Gianna," Claire said, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp register that shocked the entire room into silence. "And the external server I set up thirty minutes ago will automatically leak your private Swiss account keys directly to the Internal Revenue Service and the Italian Anti-Mafia Directorate. You won't just lose your life today... you will lose every cent your family has accumulated for fifty years."
Gianna froze, his hand trembling on the gun, staring at the woman he had dismissed as weak two years ago.

Nico stepped around Claire, his movement as fast as a striking viper. He grabbed Gianna’s wrist, twisting it until the gun dropped onto the mahogany table, and slammed his uncle’s head down against the wood.
"The council has spoken, Gianna," Nico growled into his ear. "Your reign is over."
