Chapter 7 - The Fall of the Lucchese Empire

The retaliation was swift, calculated, and absolute.
In the dead of the night, Valerio Falcone unleashed the full, terrifying power of his syndicate upon the Lucchese family.
They didn't just attack their warehouses; they dismantled their entire empire from the inside out. Using the financial records and political leverage Valerio had spent years accumulating, his associates leaked documents to the federal prosecutors, freezing the Lucchese family’s bank accounts and leading to the arrest of their top captains.
At the same time, Valerio’s tactical teams hit their illegal distribution centers along the docks, burning their goods and taking control of their shipping lines.
By morning, the Lucchese family was finished. Manny Lucchese, the arrogant boss who had ordered the assault on the Falcone estate, was found dead in his luxury penthouse, a single bullet through his heart, his hands empty.
Atlantic City had a new, undisputed king.
But inside his study, Valerio didn't look like a man who had just won a war. He looked like a man who was ready to put his crown down.
He sat behind his desk, looking at a map of the Maine coastline. He had been planning this for months, long before the Luccheses had attacked. He wanted a life free of the blood, the fear, and the constant threat of violence.
He wanted a life with Everly.
Dominic walked into the study, his face solemn. "It’s done, Valerio. The Luccheses are gone. The other families have agreed to your terms. You control the entire boardwalk now."
"Good," Valerio said, not looking up from the map. "Because I am handing it all over to you, Dominic."
Dominic froze, his eyes widening in shock. "What? Valerio, you can't be serious. You are the head of this family!"
"And I have done my duty," Valerio said, rising from his chair and walking to the window. "I have secured our family’s future. I have protected our people. But I have a new family now, Dominic. A family that cannot live in the shadows of this city. I am transferring all my legitimate holdings to a private trust. The syndicate is yours, Dominic. You have earned it."
Dominic stared at his boss for a long time, realizing that nothing he could say would change Valerio’s mind. He saw the peace in Valerio’s face, a peace that had been absent for thirty-six years.

"I understand, Valerio," Dominic said, bowing his head. "I will protect what you built."
"I know you will, my friend," Valerio said, reaching out to shake his hand. "Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a long drive ahead of me."
