Chapter 5 - The Charity Gala Trap

The invitations for the Foster Global Charity Gala were sent out within a week. It was the most coveted event of the social season, an exclusive gathering where tech moguls, real estate titans, and political figures converged. For years, Victoria Caldwell had desperately sought an invitation to the Foster Gala, as access to the Foster network meant limitless investment opportunities.
This year, to Victoria’s absolute delight, an official, wax-sealed invitation arrived at the Caldwell estate.
"I knew it!" Victoria exclaimed at the breakfast table, showing the card to her husband, Richard, and Chloe. "The Foster family is finally opening their doors to us. This proves our standing! Once we secure a venture partnership with Graham Foster’s group, our debt issues with Vantage Capital won't matter at all."
"Did Ethan reach out?" Richard asked, frowning slightly. "He hasn't answered his phone in days."
"Forget Ethan!" Chloe scoffed, sipping her green juice. "He chose that pathetic hotel girl. Let him rot in her studio apartment. When Graham Foster sees us tonight, he'll realize the Caldwells are the real elite."
That evening, the Grand Ballroom of the Palace Hotel in San Francisco was transformed into an ethereal sanctuary of white orchids, crystal chandeliers, and golden light. Over four hundred high-society guests filled the room.
Victoria, Richard, and Chloe arrived in full splendor. Victoria wore a navy silk gown with a diamond necklace worth millions, while Chloe wore a ruby-red backless gown, strutting through the crowd as if she owned the venue.
"Look at this place," Chloe whispered loudly to her mother. "This is how real wealth presents itself. Not like that trashy green dress Ethan's little clerk wore."
"Keep your voice down, Chloe," Victoria instructed, though she couldn't hide her smirk. "We need to find Mr. Graham Foster immediately. I heard he rarely makes public appearances, but he is giving the keynote address tonight."
At eight o'clock sharp, the lights dimmed slightly, and a spotlight focused on the grand staircase at the front of the ballroom. The Master of Ceremonies stepped up to the microphone.
"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests," the MC announced. "Welcome to the Foster Foundation Annual Gala. Tonight, we are honored to introduce the founder and Chairman of Foster Global, Mr. Graham Foster, alongside the Vice-Chairman and sole heiress to the Foster estate!"
The crowd applauded enthusiastically. Victoria and Chloe pushed their way toward the front, eager to get a first look at the legendary heiress.
Down the grand staircase walked Graham Foster, looking commanding and regal. But beside him, holding his arm with graceful confidence, was a young woman who made the entire ballroom take a collective breath.
She wore a custom-designed, breathtaking emerald-green silk gown, studded with microscopic diamonds that caught the light like stars. Around her neck was the famous Star of the Pacific emerald pendant—a museum-grade piece worth twenty million dollars. Her hair was styled impeccably, her posture aristocratic, her beauty radiant and undeniable.
