"Over here!" Daniel yelled, guiding Claire through the smoke toward the historic arched windows.

Using his shoulder, Daniel smashed through the reinforced glass, clearing a path to the fire escape. They tumbled out into the cold rain, coughing violently as the alarms finally began to wail throughout the district.

Behind them, Marcus stumbled out of a side exit, collapsing onto the wet pavement. He was badly burned but conscious.

"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry," Marcus sobbed as Daniel pulled him away from the heat of the blaze. "The device... it was triggered remotely. Thorne has a command center at the shipping yards. Victoria is there... she’s the one who pressed the button."

The police and fire departments arrived, their sirens screaming through the night. As paramedics loaded Marcus into an ambulance, Daniel turned to Claire, his face smeared with soot.

"We have our witness, Claire. Marcus’s confession will link Thorne to the arson. But we need to get to those shipping yards before Thorne realizes Marcus survived and tries to silence him."

"We aren't just going for Thorne," Claire said, wiping the ash from her eyes. Her fear had completely vanished, replaced by an unbreakable, crystalline resolve. "We’re going to end this. Once and for all."
