Chapter 10 - THE CORPORATE STRIKE

With Gavin behind bars on non-bailable felony harassment charges, Richard Sterling’s conspiracy began to unravel at blinding speed. Panic spread to St. Cloud, where Meredith packed her bags, attempting to flee to her sister’s house in Indiana. However, federal marshals intercepted her at the bus station with a subpoena for corporate fraud.
In the boardrooms of Minneapolis, Stella executed her financial counter-offensive.
Using Summit Development’s vast cash reserves, Stella quietly initiated a massive buyout of Sterling Capital’s underlying debt obligations. While Sterling was busy waiting for the non-profit tax audit to hit the headlines, Stella acquired fifty-one percent of his firm’s senior secured loans through a proxy investment group.
On Friday morning, Stella walked into the high-rise conference room of Sterling’s legal firm in downtown Minneapolis. She wore a tailored charcoal suit, accompanied by Marcus Vance and a team of six senior litigation attorneys.
Richard Sterling, a gray-haired man in his late fifties with a arrogant sneer, sat at the head of the glass table.
"Mrs. Laine," Sterling sneered, not bothering to stand up. "Are you here to negotiate the surrender of your Minnetonka leases before the state freezes your bank accounts?"
Stella sat down smoothly, placing a heavy black leather binder on the table.
"Mr. Sterling," Stella began, her voice calm, melodic, and terrifyingly sharp. "At 8:00 AM today, the Department of Revenue dismissed your administrative petition against the Hazel & Paige Foundation with prejudice, citing fabricated evidence provided by your paid informant, Gavin Vance."
Sterling’s sneer faltered slightly. "That’s impossible—"
"Furthermore," Marcus Vance interjected, sliding a legal notice across the table, "Summit Development Alliance completed the acquisition of Sterling Capital’s primary credit lines thirty minutes ago. You are in default of your loan covenants due to ongoing criminal investigations regarding witness tampering and corporate bribery."

Sterling’s face turned pale as paper. "You... you bought my debt?"
"I own your firm, Mr. Sterling," Stella said, leaning forward, her eyes freezing him in place. "And by 5:00 PM today, I will liquidate your remaining assets to cover the damages caused to my foundation. You tried to use my ex-husband to tear down my sanctuary. Instead, you paid for its expansion."
