Chapter 14 - FOUNDATIONS OF LOVE

On a crisp, golden afternoon in early October, Marcus took Stella for a quiet walk along the newly opened Hazel & Paige Sanctuary Trail in northern Minnesota. The autumn leaves formed a rich canopy of red and gold above them, echoing the day she had reclaimed her life years ago.
They walked hand in hand along the wooden footbridge overlooking a rushing river.
"I remember the first day you walked into my law office, Stella," Marcus said softly, stopping near the center of the bridge and turning to face her. "You were carrying three boxes of financial records, exhausted, but your eyes had a fire I had never seen in anyone before."
Stella smiled, the cool autumn wind gently playing with her hair. "I was terrified that day, Marcus."
"You were brave," Marcus corrected gently, reaching into his coat pocket and pulling out a small, elegant velvet box. "You rebuilt your world, protected your daughters, and lifted hundreds of other women along the way. You never needed a savior, Stella. But if you'll allow me, I would be honored to stand by your side as your partner for the rest of our lives."
He opened the box, revealing a timeless solitaire diamond ring set in polished platinum.
Stella looked at the ring, then up into Marcus’s sincere, loving eyes. There were no doubts, no traumatic echoes, and no hesitation in her heart.

"Yes, Marcus," Stella whispered, a radiant tear of pure joy slipping down her cheek as he slid the ring onto her finger. "Yes, absolutely."
They embraced under the autumn canopy, their kiss filled with the sweetness of a brand-new beginning.
