Chapter 9 - The Truth Unveiled

Three days later. The sun broke through the clouds over Manhattan, flooding the grand living room of Sterling Manor with bright, warm light.
The police tape had been removed from the staff corridors, but the atmosphere inside the mansion had completely changed. The cold, eerie tension that had hung over the estate during Isabella’s brief reign had vanished, replaced by an overwhelming sense of relief.
William Sterling sat on the sofa in his living room, wearing a simple cardigan sweater. The pale, gray look on his face had been replaced by healthy color as the toxic sedatives slowly flushed out of his system under top-tier hospital care.
Sitting right beside him, eating a bowl of fresh ice cream, was Ethan. The purple circles under the boy's eyes had begun to fade, and for the first time in months, a soft, happy smile rested on his face.
Detective Delgado stood near the fireplace, closing a official legal folder.
"Dr. Mercer gave a full confession yesterday morning, Mr. Sterling," Delgado reported. "Isabella hired him two years ago after researching your late wife's estate trust. The plan was to systematically alter your medical records, declare you legally incompetent due to 'early-onset dementia,' and place Ethan in a high-security facility in Europe while she assumed full power of attorney over Sterling Enterprises."
William closed his eyes, bowing his head as a heavy tear rolled down his cheek. He reached out and pulled Ethan tight into a long, protective embrace, kissing the top of his son's head.
"I was so blind, Frank," William whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I was so lost in my grief for Sarah that I let a monster walk right through my front door... I almost lost my little boy forever."
"You weren't blind, Dad," Ethan said softly, hugging his father's neck. "She was giving you bad tea that made you sleep."
William looked up, his eyes turning toward the doorway where Emma stood, wearing her neat housekeeper uniform, holding a fresh tray of clean glasses.
"Emma," William said, standing up slowly from the sofa.
Emma paused, setting her tray on a nearby side table. "Yes, Mr. Sterling?"
William walked across the room, stopping directly in front of her. The multi-billionaire real estate titan—a man who owned skyscrapers across the world—slowly bowed his head and took Emma’s gloved hands in his own.
"I don't know how to repay a debt like this," William said, his voice shaking with profound gratitude. "You risked your job, your safety, and your life to save my son when no one else in this house saw what was happening. You are the bravest person I have ever met."

"He's a good boy, Mr. Sterling," Emma smiled warmly, tears brimming in her own eyes. "Any mother would have done the same."
"No," William said firmly, looking her dead in the eye. "Not everyone would have stepped into that dark basement. You did."
