Chapter 7 - Unbreakable Bonds

Down in the basement, the heavy steel door of the vault slowly hummed as its hydraulic locks disengaged.
Della was standing near the entrance, her hands clasped tightly against her chest, her heart in her throat. As the door swung wide open, she saw Royce standing in the soft glow of the hallway lights.
His hair was wild, his shirt ripped and stained with blood, and his face smeared with soot. But he was standing. He was alive.
"Royce!" Della cried out.
Forgetting her fatigue, forgetting her fear, she ran out of the vault and threw her arms around his neck.
Royce caught her instantly, pulling her tight against his chest, wrapping his arms around her waist as if she were the only real thing in a crumbling world. He buried his face in the soft crook of her neck, inhaling the sweet scent of her hair, letting out a long, shuddering sigh of pure relief.
"You're okay... you're okay," Della sobbed into his shoulder, her hands gripping his back tightly.
"I promised you," Royce whispered, his voice rough and thick with emotion. "I told you I would come back."
Suddenly, Della pulled back slightly, her eyes catching the dark blood soaking through the sleeve of his white shirt. "You're hurt!"
"It's just a scratch, Della, I—"
"Don't 'just a scratch' me!" Della scolded tearfully, taking his hand and leading him over to a wooden bench in the corridor. "Sit down. Now."
Royce, a man who commanded hundreds of dangerous men with a single word, quietly sat down without a single argument. A faint, genuine smile touched his lips as he watched her inspect his arm with fierce, maternal concern.
Franka walked down the hallway carrying a medical kit, handing it to Della with a knowing smirk before discreetly turning and walking away to give them privacy.
Della opened the kit, pulling out antiseptic and clean bandages. Her hands were gentle as she cleaned the graze on his shoulder.
"You could have been killed," she whispered softly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she wrapped the soft white gauge around his arm. "When I heard the gunshots... I thought I was going to lose you."
Royce looked at her, his dark eyes brimming with a depth of feeling he had kept hidden for years. He reached up with his uninjured hand, his fingers gently cupping her chin, raising her gaze to meet his.
"You can't lose me, Della," Royce said softly, his voice echoing in the quiet hallway. "Six years ago, you took my heart with you when you walked out of that alley. Tonight, protecting you and your child gave my life a purpose it never had before."
Della froze, her breath catching in her throat. "Royce..."
"I know this is fast," Royce continued, his thumb gently caressing her jaw. "I know we come from completely different worlds, and I know you have every reason to be afraid of the violence that surrounds my life. But I promise you... the violence is over. My uncle is gone. The Vances are finished. I am going to tear down the shadows of my past and build something clean. For you. For your daughter."
Tears trickled down Della’s cheeks, but this time, they were tears of profound joy and relief. For months, she had felt discarded, weak, and utterly alone in a cold world. But looking into Royce’s eyes, she saw unconditional strength, devotion, and a deep, abiding love that had survived six years of darkness.

"I'm not afraid of you, Royce," Della whispered, leaning forward until her forehead rested gently against his. "I never was."
Royce smiled—a real, radiant smile that lit up his entire face, transforming the ruthless mafia boss into a man overflowing with hope.
