Chapter 8 - The Aftermath and Rebirth

Three months passed.

Spring arrived in the city, bringing warm sunshine, blooming cherry blossoms, and clear blue skies.

The scandal that had shaken the upper crust of society had finally settled. Harlan Vance and Julian Calloway were both sentenced to life imprisonment without parole following a high-profile federal trial. Cordelia Vance, stripped of her wealth and social standing, had been forced to leave the city in disgrace, her family name permanently ruined.

Meanwhile, the Ashworth Grand Hotel underwent a complete transformation.

Royce restructured the entire corporate hierarchy, replacing toxic managers like Mrs. Petrova with fair, compassionate leaders. He established a massive employee welfare fund in Della’s name, ensuring that every worker was treated with dignity, paid living wages, and provided with full healthcare benefits.

At the Calloway Estate, life had blossomed into something beautiful.

The dark, moody interior of the mansion had been refreshed with bright colors, warm woods, and open spaces filled with fresh flowers. The grounds were filled with the laughter and warmth of a true home.

Della sat in a rocking chair in the nursery, wearing a loose, beautiful linen dress. She was eight months pregnant now, her belly round and prominent. She held a book in her lap, reading softly aloud as the warm spring breeze blew through the open balcony doors.

The door to the nursery opened, and Royce walked in.

He was dressed casually in a dark sweater and jeans—a stark contrast to the stiff, formal suits he used to wear every day. His neck tattoo was still visible, a reminder of where he had come from, but his eyes were soft, relaxed, and filled with deep contentment.

He walked over to her, carrying a small black velvet box in his hand.

"How is my girl doing today?" Royce asked, dropping to one knee beside her rocking chair and resting his hand gently over her round stomach.

As if responding to his voice, the baby gave a strong, distinct kick right beneath his palm.

Royce’s face lit up with absolute delight. "She’s active today."

"She knows her father’s voice," Della smiled, placing her hand over his.

Royce looked up at her, his expression growing quiet and sweet. He held up the small black velvet box he was holding.

"Della," he began softly.

Della’s breath hitched. She looked from the box back to his eyes.

"Three months ago, I promised you that I would tear down my past and build a clean future," Royce said, his voice filled with sincere emotion. "Every day since then, watching you fill this house with light, I have realized that my life didn't truly begin until you saved me six years ago. You are my home, Della. You and this baby."

He clicked the velvet box open.

Inside sat a breathtaking ring—a flawless, emerald-cut diamond surrounded by a delicate band of smaller diamonds shaped in a subtle, exquisite crescent pattern.

"Della Marsh," Royce whispered, looking into her tear-filled eyes. "Will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my wife? Will you let me love you, protect you, and cherish you for the rest of our lives?"

Della wiped a tear from her eye, a breathless laugh escaping her lips.

"Yes!" she sobbed happily, leaning down to wrap her arms around his neck. "Yes, Royce! A thousand times yes!"

Royce slipped the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly, sparkling brilliantly in the spring sunlight. He pulled her close, pressing his lips to hers in a deep, sweet, passionate kiss that sealed their promises to one another.
