Chapter 5 - In the Dragon's Lair

Sienna slipped through the heavy velvet curtains separating the public galleries from the museum’s private administrative wing.

Nico’s signal jammer in her choker worked flawlessly; the digital keypad on the executive door glitched for three seconds, allowing her to slide through the door before it re-locked behind her.

She moved like a shadow down the carpeted hallway, her heels making no sound. She reached the door marked Executive Director Suite, where Holloway had set up his temporary command post for the gala.

The door was slightly ajar.

Sienna peeked inside. Holloway was sitting at a heavy oak desk, frantically typing into an encrypted laptop. Around his neck hung the silver hardware token on a thick chain.

"Come on... come on... damn it!" Holloway cursed under his breath, his hands flying across the keyboard as he tried to verify his offshore balances.

Sienna reached into her clutch bag and pulled out the compact scanner device. She took a deep breath, stepped into the room, and closed the door behind her with a soft click.

Holloway spun around in his chair, reaching for the pistol hidden under his jacket. "Who's there—"

"Don't bother, Garrett," Sienna said, stepping into the warm desk light.

Holloway stared at her, his eyes bulging with fury. "You... you little bitch. You tracked me up here?"

"I didn't track you. I led you here," Sienna said coldly, walking slowly toward the desk. "You think my brother was just an undercover agent who got lucky? Caleb was smarter than you ever were. He knew if anything happened to him, I would finish his work."

"Caleb Cross," Holloway sneered, a sickening grin spreading across his face. "Ah, yes. The brave FBI agent. You know, he cried right before my men pushed him off the deck. He begged for his sister."

A surge of white-hot fury roared through Sienna’s veins, but she forced her body to remain still, channeling her rage into absolute focus.

"He didn't beg," Sienna said, stepping right up to the front of the desk. "He recorded everything."

Holloway stood up, pulling his gun and aiming it directly at her chest. "It doesn't matter what he recorded. You’re in a locked room with me. No cameras. No witnesses. I’ll shoot you dead, drop your body in the alley, and tell the police you were a burglar."

Sienna didn't look at the gun. She looked at the silver token resting against his collar.

"You can shoot me, Garrett," Sienna whispered softly, leaning over the desk until she was inches from the barrel of his gun. "But you can't stop the signal."

She tapped her choker. The compact scanner inside her purse emitted a low, ultrasonic hum. The LED light on Holloway’s hardware token flashed bright blue as the entire contents of his private master drive were cloned wirelessly into Damian’s cloud server in real time.

Holloway looked down at the flashing token in horror. "What did you do?!"

"I just took everything you own," Sienna declared.

Holloway screamed in rage and pulled the trigger.
