Chapter 7 - The Battle for the Harbor

While our convoy safely headed north toward the mountain sanctuary, the night sky over the Chicago harbor erupted into absolute chaos.
Donato Valenti had moved his remaining forces to his primary stronghold—a massive, fortified shipping terminal at Port Authority. He believed that with his hundreds of armed guards, heavy machinery, and control of the docks, he was impenetrable.
He was wrong.
At precisely eleven o'clock at night, three black speedboats sliced through the foggy waters of Lake Michigan, cutting off Valenti’s escape route from the water. Simultaneously, two heavy armored trucks smashed through the terminal’s front iron gates, destroying the security outpost in a single blow.
Alejandro Moretti stepped out of the lead truck, clad in black tactical body armor, holding an assault rifle with absolute, practiced mastery.
Beside him stood Marco, Luca, and forty of the Syndicate’s most dangerous enforcers.
"Take out the spotlights!" Alejandro commanded calmly over his radio tactical headset.
BANG! BANG!
Sniper fire from the nearby crane towers shattered the terminal's floodlights, plunging the entire harbor into pitch darkness. Screams of panic from Valenti’s men echoed through the shipping containers.
"Moretti!" a voice amplified through a megaphoned loudspeaker echoed from the upper balcony of the central office building. It was Donato Valenti. "You think you can come onto my turf and dictate terms?! I have fifty men here! You won't leave this dock alive!"
Alejandro pulled a small remote detonator from his tactical vest, pressing a red button.
A series of controlled explosive charges snapped along the base of Valenti’s primary weapons warehouse on Pier 4. The concrete structure collapsed into the lake with a deafening roar, taking millions of dollars of Valenti’s illegal contraband down into the icy depths.
Silence fell over the harbor, save for the crackle of burning debris.
Alejandro picked up his own megaphone, his cold, gravelly voice cutting through the night like a blade.
"Valenti!" Alejandro called out. "Your senator has confessed. Your bank accounts in the Cayman Islands have been frozen by federal marshals. Your warehouses are burning. You have no money left to pay your men."
Alejandro paused, letting his words sink into the dark corners of the dock.
"To every man standing on that balcony with Valenti!" Alejandro shouted. "Drop your weapons now, walk off the pier, and you live. Stay beside him, and you die with him."
For ten long, agonizing seconds, no one moved.
Then, the sound of metal clattering against steel echoed across the concrete floor.
One by one, Valenti’s hired enforcers realized the war was already lost. They dropped their rifles, raising their hands, and walked away from their Boss, streaming past the shipping containers into the dark.
Inside the office building, Donato Valenti stood completely alone, staring out the shattered window as his entire empire crumbled in a single night.
Alejandro walked up the metal staircase, pushing open the heavy steel doors of the office. He stepped inside, resting his rifle against his hip.
Valenti turned around, his face pale, holding a small silver pistol with trembling hands.
"You... you monster..." Valenti whimpered, his voice stripped of all its former arrogance. "You destroyed thirty years of my work in three hours!"
"You tried to murder me in my home," Alejandro replied coldly, taking three deliberate steps forward. "You brought poison under my roof. And worst of all... you threatened the life of a four-year-old child."
Valenti raised his pistol, aiming for Alejandro’s head.
BANG.
Alejandro didn't even have to raise his rifle. From fifty yards away, through the shattered window, a single bullet from Marco’s sniper rifle tore through Valenti’s wrist, sending his silver gun flying across the room.
Valenti collapsed onto his knees, howling in pain, clutching his bloody arm.

Alejandro walked over, kicking the dropped pistol out of reach. He looked down at the ruined Don with supreme disdain.
"You won't die tonight, Valenti," Alejandro said softly. "Death is too easy. Federal agents are arriving in five minutes with Senator Harrison’s signed confession. You will spend the rest of your pathetic life in a federal penitentiary, watching my family thrive from a six-by-eight cell."
