Chapter 9 - A Second Chance at Forever

By October, nearly a year after our fateful encounter near Bethesda Fountain, the leaves in Central Park had turned brilliant shades of orange and gold once more.
On a crisp, sunny afternoon, a small, private gathering took place at the very same Bethesda Terrace where our worlds had collided twelve months earlier.
There were no press, no corporate photographers, and no societal elites.
Only Marcus, a few close friends, and our three children, who were dressed in adorable matching formal wear—Noah in a tiny black tuxedo, Owen proudly holding a velvet ring pillow, and Ivy wearing a fluffy white flower-girl dress.
I stood beneath the grand stone arches, wearing a simple, breathtaking gown of ivory silk.
Standing across from me was Sebastian. He looked impeccably handsome in his black tuxedo, his gray eyes shining with an intensity that made my breath catch in my throat.
The officiant smiled warmly at us. "Four years ago, these two souls were separated by circumstance and deception. But true love is not so easily erased. It waits in the shadows, it endures the winter, and it blooms again when the light returns."
Sebastian took both of my hands in his. He pulled a small velvet box from his pocket and opened it.
Inside was not a massive, ostentatious corporate diamond like the one he had given Clarissa Hart. It was a delicate, vintage platinum ring set with three small, sparkling gray sapphires—representing Noah, Ivy, and Owen—surrounding a flawless central diamond.
"Maya," Sebastian said, his voice trembling with emotion. "Four years ago, I gave you a ring in secret because I was too afraid to stand up to my family. I let the world tear us apart. Today, in front of our children, in front of the sun, and in front of God, I give you this ring as a promise that no one—no empire, no lie, no force on this earth—will ever separate us again."
He slid the ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly.
I looked into his eyes, feeling the complete, total healing of every scar I had carried.
"Sebastian," I said, my voice strong and clear. "Four years ago, I thought I lost the love of my life. But today, I realize that love was just waiting for us to become strong enough to hold it. You are my home, my protector, and the father of my children. I choose you, today and for all the days of my life."
"By the power vested in me," the officiant announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife again! You may kiss the bride!"

Sebastian pulled me into his arms, kissing me with a fierce, passionate reverence that echoed through the stone arches of Bethesda Terrace.
Noah, Ivy, and Owen cheered loudly, running up to wrap their small arms around our legs, giggling as Sebastian lifted all three of them into his arms, pulling us into one massive, joyous family embrace.
