Chapter 4 - The Offer

Graham took a long breath, running a hand through his thinning hair. He looked around the small, cramped apartment—the half-unpacked cardboard boxes, the stack of overdue bills sitting on the counter, the sheer exhaustion etched into Sarah's face.

"Holland," Graham said, leaning forward. "The regional Sunshine State Martial Arts Tournament is in three weeks in Orlando. It's an open-style, full-contact division. The grand prize for the open division is ten thousand dollars."

Sarah’s head snapped toward him. "Ten thousand dollars?"

"Yes," Graham nodded. "It's sponsored by a local automotive chain. The entry fee is five hundred dollars per fighter, plus equipment fees. I want Holland to represent Coastal Athletics."

Holland shook her head immediately, stepping back. "No. I don't... I don't like crowds. I don't want people looking at me."

"Holland, listen to me," Graham said urgently, but gently. "I know you're hiding. I know what it's like when your whole life gets ripped out from under you—my wife left six years ago, took half my equipment, and I almost lost the gym. But you have a gift that one in a million fighters possess. You have absolute mastery over your mind in the ring."

He turned to Sarah. "If Holland fights under my gym's name, I will cover her entry fees, pay for her gear, and give her full, free access to my facility 24/7. Furthermore... if she wins, I'll waive her training fees forever and hire her as a junior instructor for my kids' classes. She can earn her own money."

Sarah looked at Holland, her eyes shining with sudden, desperate hope. "Holland... baby..."

Holland looked at her mother's tired, worn hands. She thought about the bounced checks, the dark apartment, the cold dinners made of canned soup. For three years, her mother had sacrificed everything—driving eight hours every weekend to take her to tournaments, buying expensive gear, sitting in cold bleachers while shouting her name.

It was time to pay that debt back.

Holland looked back at Graham. Her blue eyes, usually soft and hidden behind her long bangs, suddenly flared with the cold light of determination.

"I need a heavy bag that doesn't swing," Holland said flatly. "I need six sets of hand wraps. And I won't fight in your point-sparring gear. I fight Kyokushin style—bare knuckles, full contact to the body, kicks to the head."

Graham smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached his eyes for the first time in years. "Deal."
