Chapter 10 - The Shared Table of the Blessed

Two years later, the scent of fresh lavender and pine needles filled the warm air of the garden behind the historic brownstone.
The backyard had been transformed into a beautiful, intimate wedding venue. White flower petals lined the grass aisle, and soft, classical music drifted from the speakers, blending with the sound of laughter from their close friends, family, and the colleagues from Daniel’s hospital.
Rachel stood as the maid of honor, looking stunning in a peach dress, her eyes shining with tears of joy for her sister.
Beside Daniel stood his best man, and next to them was Grace, now three years old, wearing a beautiful white flower girl dress with a small, accidental smudge of chocolate on the hem—a sweet reminder that life didn't need to be perfect to be beautiful.
As Catherine walked down the grass aisle, her green eyes locked onto Daniel. He stood at the altar, wearing a sharp black suit, his expression filled with a love so profound it made Catherine’s breath catch.
The vows they exchanged were simple, but they carried the weight of a journey that had begun in a terrifying, storm-ravaged delivery room.
"I promise to hold your hand through every storm," Daniel said, his voice steady and clear. "To walk beside you through the dark, and to celebrate every light we find together. You are my home, Catherine, and I am yours."
"I promise to trust the next breath, and the next step, as long as I’m taking them with you," Catherine replied, her eyes shining with happy tears. "You showed me that love isn't about the promises made in the quiet, but the actions taken during the storm. I love you, Daniel."
The priest pronounced them husband and wife, and the garden erupted into a joyous round of applause and cheers as Daniel dipped her for a long, passionate kiss.
Later that evening, as the stars began to glitter over Philadelphia, a massive wooden dining table was set in the garden under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights.
Friends and family laughed, glasses clinked, and the table groaned under the weight of a magnificent feast—including a large platter of fresh, homemade pasta that Catherine had insisted on baking herself.
Catherine sat at the center of the table, her hand resting warmly in Daniel’s. Grace was currently sitting on Rachel’s lap, happily eating a piece of wedding cake.
Daniel raised his glass, commanding the attention of the table.
"A toast," Daniel said, his voice warm and resonant. "To the storms that break us, the paths that lead us, and the family we build from the pieces. To the most beautiful recipe of all: love, trust, and the courage to share your table with the people who matter."

"Salute!" the table echoed, their glasses clinking together in a beautiful, messy symphony of laughter.
Catherine leaned her head against Daniel’s shoulder, watching the warm, golden light reflect off her wedding band. The broke, abandoned woman who had cried in the dark at 3:07 a.m. was gone forever. In her place was a woman who had fought the storm, rebuilt her world, and had finally, truly found her home.
