Chapter 8 - The Reconstruction

In the weeks that followed, the fallout was catastrophic for the corrupt, but glorious for the innocent.

With Alejandro’s full cooperation, federal authorities dismantled the entire illegal antiquities smuggling ring. Over three hundred priceless pre-Columbian and European artifacts were returned to national museums and rightful historical heirs across the world.

Alejandro voluntarily dissolved Aranda Enterprises' legacy structure, paying off all debts and liquidating the tainted family assets. He rebranded the company into the Valeria Hayes Cultural & Ecological Trust, dedicated to art restoration, historical preservation, and funding maternal health shelters for abused women.

Esther, Marcela, and Guillermo were sentenced to twenty-five years in a maximum-security federal prison, stripped of every cent of their stolen wealth.

Sitting in her new art restoration studio overlooking the peaceful gardens of Coyoacán, Valeria watched the evening sun cast golden light across her canvas.

Alejandro walked in, holding two cups of warm tea. He sat beside her, gently placing a hand over her round, eight-month belly.

"How is our little girl doing today?" he asked, his eyes full of warmth and peace.

"She’s kicking," Valeria smiled, leaning her head against his chest. "I think she likes the sound of the rain."

"I spoke with the architects today," Alejandro whispered, kissing her forehead. "The new house in Coyoacán has no high walls, no iron gates, and no security cameras. Just open gardens and sunlight."
