Chapter 7 - The Nanny’s Stand

Down in the hidden panic room beneath the garden, Emma held the triplets close to her chest.
The room was reinforced with heavy steel walls, equipped with monitors showing live feeds of the estate perimeter. Over the audio feed, Emma could hear the thundering sound of gunfire and heavy explosions above.
The triplets whimpered, frightened by the muffled booms shaking the ceiling.
"Shh, baby boys," Emma whispered softly, kissing Liam’s forehead while holding Leo and Lucas tightly. "Daddy is protecting us. Daddy is very strong."
Suddenly, one of the monitors flared red.
A group of three armed men in black tactical gear had breached the secondary basement entrance—the very corridor leading to the panic room's outer door.
Emma’s blood ran cold. The security guard stationed outside the door fell to the floor after a brief gunfight.
Over the external intercom, a heavy voice boomed: "Open the door, nanny! We know you're in there with the Moretti heirs! Give us the boys, and we'll let you live!"
Emma looked at the three terrified toddlers clinging to her dress.
A fierce, protective motherly instinct erupted within her chest. She looked around the panic room, her eyes landing on an iron crowbar and a heavy fire extinguisher mounted near the door.

She reached into the rope bag she had brought down with her—the same thick hemp rope the boys had played with on the lawn.
"You want my boys?" Emma whispered, her eyes burning with defiance. "Come and get them."
