Chapter 10 - THE HAVEN OF THE DUCA FAMILY

That evening, the grand back garden of the estate was lit by hundreds of warm fairy lights strung through the ancient oak trees.

Over fifty guests—local townspeople, estate staff, trusted lieutenants, and their families—sat at long wooden dining tables covered in white linens, enjoying a feast prepared by the estate’s chefs.

There were no armed guards visible in the garden. No territorial maps, no secret meetings, and no lingering shadows of the past.

At the central table sat Lorenzo, Clara, and Mia.

Mia was sitting between Lorenzo and Clara, happily eating ice cream while telling a funny story to Marco, who was laughing heartily across the table. Pino lay comfortably under the table, enjoying scraps of roast beef that Mia kept secretly dropping for him.

Clara leaned her head against Lorenzo’s shoulder, holding his large hand under the table, her fingers intertwined with his.

Lorenzo looked out over the crowded, laughing garden. He thought back to the man he had been thirteen years ago—a cold, ruthless mob boss who walked through life surrounded by enemies, conviction, and absolute silence.

He remembered the cold October wind, the wet garden leaves, and the tiny three-year-old girl who had been crying alone behind the trash cans holding a one-eyed stuffed rabbit.

He looked down at his wife, whose hazel eyes shone with complete, unshakeable happiness, and then at his daughter, who was currently trying to feed Lorenzo a spoonful of strawberry ice cream.

“Open wide, Daddy!” Mia commanded playfully.

Lorenzo laughed—a deep, rich sound that echoed warmly across the illuminated garden—and took the bite.

The autumn wind that had once brought fear to these halls was gone, replaced by a soft, sweet spring breeze that carried the promises of a peaceful future, built on the unbreakable foundation of true love and family.
