Chapter 9 - A NEW DAWN

Six months later.
Spring had arrived in the northern territory, turning the gardens of the Duca estate into a breathtaking sea of blooming lavender, white roses, and lush green grass.
The estate had undergone a massive transformation. The cold, austere security posts had been softened by flower beds, and the once-silent marble halls now rang daily with the sound of a child’s laughter and the pitter-patter of little feet.
In the grand study where Don Silvio had once tried to sign a forced marriage contract, Lorenzo sat behind his massive mahogany desk.
He was reviewing a stack of legal documents—not mob treaties or extortion demands, but land deeds for a new charitable foundation he and Clara had established to provide housing and education for low-income mothers across the province.
Marco stepped into the office, carrying a folder.
“The southern shipping ports have been completely transitioned into legitimate commercial logistics, Boss,” Marco reported with a proud smile. “Our revenue is up twenty percent, and the local authorities have officially closed all investigations into the Moretti syndicate.”
“Good work, Marco,” Lorenzo smiled, signing the bottom of the foundation deed. “And the personnel?”
“Every former housemaid on the estate has received a fifty percent wage increase and full medical benefits,” Marco replied. “Clara’s old friends in the kitchen send their deepest thanks.”
Suddenly, the double study doors burst open.
Mia—now four years old, wearing a bright yellow sundress—came sprinting into the room, followed closely by Pino, who wore a festive red bandana around his collar.
“Daddy! Daddy! Look what I found!” Mia squealed, holding up a small, fluttering blue butterfly in her cupped hands.
Lorenzo immediately set his pen down, a look of absolute, radiant joy filling his face as he scooped his adopted daughter into his arms.
“A butterfly, little rabbit?” Lorenzo marveled, kissing her forehead. “Did Pino help you catch it?”
“Pino tried to eat it!” Mia giggled, patting the massive Doberman’s head as he rested his snout on Lorenzo’s knee.
Clara walked into the study, wearing a stunning white summer dress that complemented her radiant dark hair. She was glowing, healthy, and holding a tray of fresh lemonade.
Marco bowed his head respectfully. “Donna Clara.”
Clara smiled warmly at Marco before walking over to her husband’s desk.
Lorenzo stood up, holding Mia with one arm while wrapping his free arm around Clara’s waist, pulling her close against his side. He kissed her temple softly, inhaling the sweet scent of lavender soap and fresh spring air.

“Are you ready for the garden party, Don Lorenzo?” Clara teased gently, adjusting his collar.
“I am always ready for you, Donna Clara,” Lorenzo murmured softly, his eyes filled with endless devotion.
