Chapter 10 - THE FAMILY WE CHOOSE

The wedding was held eighteen months later on the grounds of the Calloway Estate.
It wasn't a corporate spectacle for reporters or business partners. It was an intimate, beautiful celebration of love, attended by close friends, the foundation staff, and Priya—who sat in the front row crying tears of absolute joy, having finally forgiven herself for changing her phone number two years ago.
The aisle was paved with fresh white rose petals.
At the altar stood Julian, looking impossibly handsome in a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, his eyes fixed entirely on the path ahead.
The music shifted into a soft, breathtaking piano melody.
Nora walked down the aisle, looking like a dream in a gown of ivory lace and silk, holding a simple bouquet of white lilies.
And walking right beside her, holding her mother’s hand with intense pride, was two-and-a-half-year-old Lily, wearing a matching ivory dress with a soft pink sash, tossing rose petals with giggling delight.
When Nora reached the altar, Julian stepped forward, taking her hand gently in his.
The minister smiled warmly at the small family standing before him.
"We are gathered here today," the minister spoke, "not just to join two lives in holy matrimony, but to celebrate the creation of a family—a family built not on circumstance or chance, but on courage, protection, and unconditional love."
The vows were spoken in clear, steady voices—promises made under the open sky, witnessed by the sun and the people who loved them most.
"I, Julian Calloway, take you, Nora Callahan, to be my wedded wife," Julian said, placing a platinum band on her finger. "To have and to hold, in sickness and in health, in storm and in sunshine, for as long as we both shall live."
"I, Nora Callahan, take you, Julian Calloway, to be my wedded husband," Nora replied, her voice ringing clear and true. "My protector, my partner, and the love of my life."
"By the power vested in me," the minister declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Julian, you may kiss your bride."
Julian pulled Nora close, dipping her gently as his lips met hers in a passionate, sweeping kiss that made the entire audience break into thunderous applause.
Lily immediately jumped up and down, clapping her chubby hands and giggling. "Daddy! Mommy!"
Julian lifted his daughter into his arms, holding Nora close against his side as they turned to face their guests—not as three separate souls who had survived a harsh winter, but as one united, invincible family.
As the sun set over the estate, casting a warm golden glow across the lawn, Nora looked up at her husband and daughter.

The memory of eleven fifty-eight at night, the empty formula can, and the three dollars and eighteen cents felt a million miles away now—not erased, but transformed into the very foundation upon which their unbreakable happiness was built.
They had found each other in the dark, and together, they would live forever in the light.
