Chapter 10 - A True Celebration

The backyard of our home was decorated with string lights that twinkled like stars against the evening sky. There were no white flower arches, no expensive champagne towers, and no high-society guests whispering judgment in the corners.

Instead, the lawn was filled with our real family, close friends, and dozens of women from the foundation, laughing and sharing stories over a massive, homemade barbecue. Aunt Denise was there, proudly serving her famous lemon cake, which this time remained completely safe from any drama.

Caleb stood by the grill, laughing with some of his old college friends, a bright, genuine smile illuminating his face. He had finally found peace, knowing that his family was whole and protected.

I stood on the back porch, watching the scene with a full heart. Evelyn walked out from the kitchen, holding two glasses of lemonade. She wasn't wearing a wig, and she didn't need one. She was the most beautiful woman in the world, radiant in a simple yellow sundress, her face glowing with health and happiness.

"What are you thinking about, Martin?" she asked, handing me a glass and leaning against the wooden railing beside me.

I looked down at the gold band on my finger, then up at the beautiful chaos of our backyard.

"I was just thinking about that wedding envelope," I murmured, pulling her into my side. "Everyone thought it was supposed to be a gift to start a new life."

"It was a gift," Evelyn said softly, resting her head against my chest. "It gave us our life back. It gave Caleb his future back. And it showed me exactly how lucky I am to have a man who would tear down the world to protect me."

I smiled, tightening my grip around her shoulders as the sound of laughter and music drifted up from the lawn. The nightmare was over. The truth had won, justice had been served, and as we looked out at the people who truly loved us, we knew that our family’s real story was just beginning.
