Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Tomorrow

The evening sun dipped below the horizon, painting the Connecticut sky in brilliant hues of gold, crimson, and deep violet. Fairy lights twinkled across the estate grounds as guests danced beneath the stars.
Away from the music and laughter of the main reception, Thomas, Clara, and Sophie walked together down to the edge of the private lake. The water was as smooth as glass, reflecting the golden twilight.
Sophie sat on a smooth stone at the water's edge, skipping tiny pebbles across the surface with remarkably good form.
Thomas stood behind Clara, his broad arms wrapped around her waist, his chin resting gently on her shoulder as they watched their daughter play.
"What are you thinking about?" Clara asked softly, placing her hands over his.
"I was thinking about that Tuesday afternoon," Thomas murmured, a soft smile playing on his lips. "About a green Ferrari, a scraped knee, and a little girl who looked up at me and called me 'Daddy' when I was completely lost."
Clara turned slightly, kissing his jaw. "She knew, Thomas. Even before we did, her little heart knew who you were."
Sophie turned around, running up to them with a large, perfectly smooth white river stone in her tiny hands.
"Daddy! Look at this rock! It looks like a heart!" Sophie squealed, holding it up proudly.
Thomas leaned down, picking Sophie up in one arm while keeping his other arm securely around Clara's waist. He looked at the white stone, then at his wife's radiant face, and finally into the bright blue eyes of his daughter.

"It is a heart, little bird," Thomas whispered, his voice thick with profound, eternal gratitude. "And it's full."
Together, the three of them stood on the peaceful shore, wrapped in the warm, unbreakable embrace of a family restored, watching the bright stars fill the vast sky above their forever home.
