Chapter 9 - The Garden Wedding

Three months later, under a flawless, clear blue June sky, Blackwood Manor opened its gates for the grandest celebration Connecticut had ever seen.

The sprawling lawns were transformed into an ethereal wonderland of white roses, crystal chandeliers hanging from ancient oak branches, and soft classical music drifting through the warm summer breeze.

Friends, family, redeemed board members, and dignitaries from around the world gathered in the wooden outdoor amphitheater overlooking the private lake.

Thomas stood at the altar, looking dashing in a dark midnight-blue tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus, serving proudly as his best man.

The music shifted to a sweet, soaring violin melody.

First came Sophie, looking like a little angel in a white lace dress with a crown of yellow daisies in her hair. She walked down the petal-strewn aisle with supreme confidence, tossing handfuls of rose petals with a brilliant, toothy smile.

Then came Clara.

The breath left Thomas's lungs. She was breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of delicate ivory silk, her dark hair styled in soft waves, holding a bouquet of lily-of-the-valley. Her hazel eyes were locked onto Thomas, radiating an extraordinary, blinding love.

When her father—now fully exonerated, healthy, and walking with a cane—handed Clara's hand to Thomas, the older man whispered tearfully, "Take care of my girl, Thomas."

"With my life, sir," Thomas replied firmly.

Before the minister, under the canopy of white roses and summer sun, Thomas and Clara exchanged their vows—not the generic promises of youth, but the deep, battle-tested vows of two souls who had fought through the darkest storms to find their way back to the light.

"I pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared softly. "Thomas, you may kiss your bride."

Thomas pulled Clara into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply, sending a roar of cheers and applause echoing across the lake.
