Chapter 6 - The Trap Sprung

The next morning, the grand boardroom on the top floor of Blackwood Tower was packed to capacity. The air was thick with the scent of expensive cologne, stale coffee, and unspoken anxiety. Thirty-two board members, institutional investors, and senior partners sat around the oval mahogany table, whispering nervously among themselves.

At the far end sat Arthur Blackwood. At sixty-two, Arthur was a picture of silver-haired corporate elegance. He wore a bespoke Savile Row suit, a gold signet ring on his pinky, and a relaxed, arrogant smirk on his face.

"I must say, gentlemen," Arthur announced loudly to the nearby directors, checking his gold Patek Philippe watch, "calling an emergency session on a Thursday morning without an agenda is highly unorthodox. Thomas is letting his personal eccentricities get the better of him lately."

The heavy oak doors at the end of the room swung open.

Thomas stepped inside. He wore a crisp charcoal suit, his dark hair combed back, his posture radiating overwhelming power. But he did not walk alone.

Walking beside him, her head held high, her gaze steady and unyielding, was Clara. She wore a tailored midnight-blue suit, looking every bit the brilliant strategist who had once dominated these very halls.

Arthur’s smirk vanished instantly. The color drained from his face, leaving him a sickly gray. He gripped the edge of the table so hard his knuckles turned white.

"What is the meaning of this?" Arthur barked, standing up, his voice cracking with panicked anger. "Thomas, you cannot bring a disgraced former employee into an executive board session! Security! Have this woman removed!"

"Sit down, Arthur," Thomas said. The words were delivered softly, yet they possessed a terrifying weight that made the entire room fall dead silent.

Thomas signaled to Vance, who distributed thick, leather-bound dossiers to every board member at the table.

"Six years ago," Thomas spoke, his voice echoing clearly across the room, "Clara Evans resigned from this company under immense pressure. The official narrative was corporate misconduct. The truth, however, was blackmailed terror."

The board members began opening the folders, their eyes widening as they scanned the forensic bank audits, the digital IP logs, and the signed affidavits from offshore bank managers.

"Arthur Blackwood forged those records," Thomas declared, pointing a long finger directly at his uncle. "He threatened Miss Evans's family, forced her into hiding, and stole six years of my daughter's life. And while he was doing that, he embezzled one hundred and twenty million dollars from your pension funds."

Gasps of horror erupted across the table. Two senior directors stood up, shouting in anger at Arthur.

"This is a witch hunt!" Arthur screamed, his composure completely shattering as he pointed a trembling finger at Thomas. "You’re lying! You framed me to consolidate power! You can't prove any of this!"

"We don't need to prove it to the board, Arthur," Clara spoke up, her voice calm, clear, and ringing with absolute victory. "We've already proven it to the Southern District Attorney's Office."

The boardroom doors opened once more. Four federal agents in dark suits stepped inside, accompanied by uniformed NYPD officers.

"Arthur Blackwood," the lead federal agent stated, reading from a warrant. "You are under arrest for grand larceny, wire fraud, corporate espionage, and extortion. Put your hands behind your back."

Arthur stumbled back, looking around the room for support, but every single board member turned their back on him in utter disgust. As the cold steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists, Arthur was led out of the high-rise tower he had sought to control, stripped of his dignity, his fortune, and his freedom forever.
