Chapter 10 - THE BUTTERFLY'S SANCTUARY

Two years later. Late summer.

The sun was setting over the ocean, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, crimson, and molten gold. The gentle tide lapped softly against the stone pier at the base of the Aldgate estate.

A small wooden sailboat—the very one that Callum, Marcos, and Petra had spent six months building together in the estate boathouse—lay anchored safely near the shore, its white sails neatly furled.

On the grand lawn overlooking the ocean, a small, intimate wedding ceremony had just concluded.

Nadia stood under an archway of white roses and blue hydrangeas, wearing a simple, breathtaking ivory gown. Beside her stood Callum in a sharp navy tuxedo, looking at her as if she were the only person in the entire world.

The minister had just pronounced them husband and wife.

Callum pulled Nadia into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply, while the small group of guests—June, Marcus, Elspeth, Marcos, and a few close friends—cheered and applauded warmly!

When they straightened up, Petra stepped forward wearing her flower girl dress, holding a small velvet box containing their official wedding bands.

Callum took the ring for Nadia, sliding the sparkling diamond band onto her finger. "With this ring," Callum whispered, his voice trembling with emotion, "I give you my heart, my home, and my endless gratitude."

Nadia took the ring for Callum, sliding the heavy gold band onto his finger. "With this ring, I give you my love, my trust, and my promise to walk beside you forever."

Petra looked up at them, her hazel eyes bright and peaceful. She reached out and placed her small hand over their joined hands.

"The chair isn't in the corner anymore," Petra said softly.

Nadia and Callum both looked at her, surprised.

"What do you mean, sweetheart?" Nadia asked gently.

"In my room," Petra explained, a rare, beautiful smile illuminating her small face. "I moved the green chair. It's sitting right next to the window now. So I can look at the garden."

Callum felt tears sting his eyes. He dropped to one knee, wrapping his arms around his daughter, pulling Nadia into the hug alongside them.

Moving the chair away from the door—away from the watching corner—was the ultimate declaration. Petra no longer felt the need to guard the perimeter. She no longer felt the need to watch for hidden threats or shifting shadows.

She felt entirely, permanently safe.

The three of them stood together on the cliffside as the evening breeze blew softly off the ocean, carrying the sweet scent of flowers and salt water. High above them, fluttering gently through the warm twilight air, a pair of blue butterflies danced together before soaring out toward the open horizon.

The house on the cliff was no longer a fortress of shadows. It was a sanctuary of light, bound by love, protected by truth, and filled with a peace that would endure for generations to come.
