Chapter 3 - The Unraveling

“Brynn, have you lost your absolute mind?!” Marguerite shrieked, dropping her champagne flute. It shattered against the flagstone, the amber liquid pooling like blood. “Security! Throw her out! Arrest her!”

“You might want to check who owns the security contract, Marguerite,” a calm, professional voice rang out.

Lena Hart walked through the gates, flanked by two uniformed police officers and an older, distinguished man in a bespoke suit—District Attorney Thomas Vance.

Weston lunged toward Brynn, his hand raised just as it had been the night before. “You bitch—!”

He didn't even touch her. The two police officers intervened instantly, pinning Weston’s arms behind his back and clicking the steel handcuffs into place with a sharp, echoing snap.

“Weston Sutherland,” the lead officer declared loudly. “You are under arrest for corporate fraud, forgery, and domestic assault.”

Marguerite clutched her chest, staggering backward into a wrought-iron patio chair. “This is a mistake! My son is an honorable man! We are pillars of this community!”

DA Vance stepped forward, opening a leather portfolio. “Pillars built on quicksand, Mrs. Sutherland. For five years, your daughter-in-law was forced to act as an unpaid slave while you used her legal identity to shield your illegal shell corporations. But thanks to the comprehensive forensic audit provided by Ms. Brynn Sutherland—who, I might add, is the majority shareholder and sole legal owner of both this estate and the boutique—your little kingdom is officially in receivership.”
