Six months later, the dust had settled entirely.
The Sutherland estate had been sold at auction to satisfy creditors, with the remaining millions reverting directly to Brynn as restitution and asset recovery. Weston was facing a lengthy federal prison sentence with no possibility of early parole, his high-society friends completely vanishing the moment his accounts were frozen. Marguerite was forced into a modest, cramped apartment, stripped of her wealth, her status, and her delusions of grandeur.
Brynn sat on the sunlit balcony of a gorgeous penthouse overlooking the ocean. The salt breeze rustled her hair—hair that no one would ever pull again.
Lena walked out onto the balcony, holding two glasses of crisp white wine, handing one to Brynn.
“Property transfer for the new office went through this morning,” Lena smiled, clinking her glass against Brynn’s. “The forensic accounting firm is officially up and running. And Chief Executive Brynn Sutherland looks happier than I’ve ever seen her.”
