Chapter 4 - The True Master

Marguerite stared blankly at her son, who was being led toward a squad car in handcuffs, his face twisted in utter disbelief and humiliation. All fifty guests were watching, whispering behind designer handbags, pulling out their phones to record the fall of the Sutherland dynasty.
Brynn walked slowly up the steps of the veranda, looking down at the woman who had tormented her for half a decade.
“You wanted a grand celebration, Marguerite,” Brynn said softly, her voice carrying a chilling sweetness. “Congratulations. You’ll be talking about your fifty-fifth birthday for the rest of your natural life.”

“You... you planned this,” Marguerite whispered, her voice cracking with pure terror as she realized the true depth of the trap she and her son had walked into. “All those months... you let me boss you around... you smiled...”
“Survival requires patience,” Brynn replied.
