Chapter 8 - The Foundation

Madeline returned to Atlanta a year later, not as a broken woman, but as a force to be reckoned with. She had settled her finances and established "The Liam Fund," a charity dedicated to protecting children in high-wealth, high-neglect environments.
She was a speaker at galas and a board member at several pediatric hospitals. She became a mentor to other women who had been trapped in similar situations, helping them navigate the complex legal systems of corporate divorce.
One afternoon, she ran into Cynthia at a grocery store.
Cynthia looked aged, her once-manicured hands now calloused from manual work, her designer dress replaced by a faded uniform. She froze when she saw Madeline.
Madeline didn't stop. She didn't glare. She simply looked through Cynthia as if she were made of air. She walked past her, holding Liam’s hand. Liam was wearing a bright yellow shirt, his hair brushed, his eyes bright with intelligence and joy. He didn't even notice Cynthia.

He was too busy looking at a display of books.
Cynthia stayed rooted to the spot, realizing that while she was stuck in the life she had created, Madeline had ascended to something far greater. The realization was more painful than any insult Madeline could have thrown her way.
