Chapter 8 - The Proposal in the Garden

That evening, as the sun began to set in brilliant shades of pink, orange, and purple, the grounds of Calder House fell into a serene, peaceful quiet.
Sophie was inside the house, sleeping soundly in her new, spacious bedroom after a long day of celebrating.
Vincent led Elena by the hand through the newly planted rose gardens behind the estate, walking toward a stone pavilion overlooking the quiet waters of the Ohio River below.
The evening breeze was warm, carrying the scent of blooming flowers and fresh river air.
Elena stopped near the stone balustrade, looking out at the city lights beginning to twinkle in the distance.
"It’s so peaceful here now, Vincent," Elena murmured softly, resting her head against his shoulder. "Sometimes I still feel like I'm dreaming."
Vincent stood beside her, his hands holding hers tightly.
"You're not dreaming, Elena," Vincent said, his voice dropping into an intense, quiet register. "This is the life you built. The life you gave back to me."
He slowly let go of her hands, stepping back.
Elena turned around, her eyes widening in sudden, breathless surprise.
Vincent Calder—the feared crime boss who had never bowed to any man, politician, or cartel—dropped down onto one knee before her on the stone pavilion floor.
He pulled a velvet box from his jacket, opening it to reveal a stunning ring featuring a rare, radiant-cut pink diamond surrounded by brilliant white diamond accents.
"Vincent..." Elena gasped, her hands flying to her mouth, tears instantly spilling over her lashes.
"Elena," Vincent said, looking up into her eyes with an unshakeable, profound devotion that burned brighter than the stars above. "For nine years, I lived in a world of violence, coldness, and fear. I believed I was damned to spend my life in the shadows."
He reached out, taking her trembling right hand into his large, warm grip.
"Then you walked into my life with your courage, your brilliance, and your fierce, beautiful heart," Vincent continued, his voice thick with deep emotion. "You saved my soul, Elena. You gave me a home. You gave me a daughter. And I want to spend every remaining breath of my life protecting you, loving you, and honoring you."
He lifted the ring slightly.
"Elena Brooks... will you do me the absolute honor of becoming my wife?"
Elena couldn't speak. She dropped down to her knees right in front of him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck, burying her face in his neck as she wept tears of pure, unadulterated happiness.

"Yes! Yes, Vincent! A thousand times, yes!" Elena sobbed joyfully.
Vincent let out a deep, triumphant breath, wrapping his arms around her waist, lifting her up as he kissed her with a fierce, passionate love that shattered every remaining wall between their hearts. He slid the pink diamond ring onto her finger—a perfect fit, a symbol of an unshakeable promise.
