Chapter 8 - The Judgment

The heavy sound of footsteps echoed outside as federal agents and Seattle police officers, led by Marcus Grant’s coordination, swarmed into Warehouse 14.
Sirens wailed in the distance as red and blue lights illuminated the rain-slicked docks outside.
Federal agents immediately pinned Raines’ surrendering thugs to the ground, slapping heavy iron cuffs on their wrists.
Two FBI agents approached Raines, forcing him onto his feet and kicking his dropped revolver away.
Special Agent Sarah Vance, the lead prosecutor on the Harbor Point corruption case, stepped up to Adrian and Nia.
"We have full custody of the suspect and the premises, Mr. Vale," Agent Vance said, looking at the wounded crime boss. "The evidence provided by Miss Whitaker's drive, combined with today's kidnapping charges, ensures Victor Raines will spend the rest of his life in a federal supermax facility."
Raines, his face pale and bleeding, looked up at Nia as the agents dragged him toward the police cruiser.
"You..." Raines spat, his voice raspy and broken. "You were just a pathetic nurse... a nobody..."
Nia stepped forward, standing tall beside Adrian. She looked down at the man who had ordered her beaten on the side of the road, who had tried to murder her brother, and who had profited off the suffering of the poor.
She didn't show anger. She didn't show fear. She showed only the quiet, unyielding dignity of a woman who had survived the dark.
"I wasn't a nobody, Mr. Raines," Nia said clearly, her voice carrying across the quiet warehouse. "I was the person who was watching. And that was all it took to destroy you."
Raines was shoved into the back of the police cruiser, the heavy door slamming shut, locking him away from the daylight forever.
Ethan wrapped his arms around Nia, hugging his sister tightly as tears of relief washed away the terror of the afternoon.
"Are you okay, Ethan?" Nia asked gently, checking his face with practiced nursing skill.
May you like
"I'm okay, Nia," Ethan smiled through his tears, looking over at Adrian. "Thanks to him."
Adrian stood nearby, his hands in his pockets, watching the reunion with a quiet, subtle smile—the first true smile Marcus Grant had seen on his boss’s face in eleven years.
