Chapter 10 - The Horizon
Matteo was now a toddler, walking with a steady, confident stride. He was the center of a world that had finally stopped spinning into chaos.
Alessandro had changed. He wasn't the man who held a gun to a surgeon’s head anymore. He was a father figure, a man who built a legacy that wasn't paved with blood.
I sat on the patio of the estate, watching the sun rise over the lake. I was finishing my medical degree, my path finally clear.
"Are you going to leave?" Alessandro asked, coming up behind me.
"I have a life to build," I said, turning to look at him. "But I think we've both grown enough to know that we’re better off as friends than as wolf and asset."
He smiled, a rare, genuine expression. "You saved me, Lauren. Not just Matteo. You saved me from myself."

I looked toward the horizon, the city lights fading into the morning. The journey had been harrowing, a descent into a world of shadow, but I had emerged on the other side, stronger, wiser, and finally free.
I had come as a nurse, but I was leaving as a survivor.
