Chapter 9 - The Final Move

I dressed in simple, nondescript clothing. I waited until the guards were changed, then I slipped out the back of the estate. I knew the city. I knew the routes.

I arrived at the warehouse just as Marco was meeting with the rival boss. I didn't have a weapon, but I had something better: information. I had recorded their private conversations on a device I’d swiped from Alessandro’s study.

I leaked the recording to the press and the police in a way that wouldn't trace back to me.

The next morning, the city was in chaos. Marco was arrested, the rival family was decimated, and Alessandro’s empire was, for the moment, untouchable.

I returned to the estate just before dawn. Alessandro was standing in the foyer, his face dark.

"Where were you?" he asked.

"Cleaning up the mess," I said, tossing the recording device onto the table.

He stared at the device, then at me. He understood.
