Chapter 3 - The Truth Sealed in Red

With trembling fingers, Clara tore open the red wax seal.
Inside were thirty pages of high-density medical diagnostics, complete with spinal MRI scans, electromyography readings, and signed medical affidavits stamped by the Chief of Neurosurgery at the University of Zurich.
Her eyes scanned the dense technical jargon, her mind racing back to the basic biology tutors her father had hired for her.
Patient: Clara Elizabeth Sterling. Diagnostic Summary: Lumbar spine structural integrity fully intact. L3-L5 compression resolved via emergency decompressive laminectomy (Date: 14 days post-incident). Current Status: Zero permanent motor nerve damage. Severe, localized muscle atrophy induced and maintained via daily administration of Neuromuscular Inhibitor-7 (NMI-7).
Clara stopped reading. The room felt suddenly devoid of air.
"NMI-7..." she whispered, her hands shaking so violently the paper rattled.
She knew that code name. It was a proprietary compound developed by Sterling Bio-Tech—a temporary nerve-blocking agent designed to paralyze muscles during high-precision spinal surgeries so patients wouldn't reflexively twitch on the operating table.
Every morning at 8:00 AM, her father had come into her bedroom with a glass of orange juice and a small blue capsule. “For your nerve pain, my sweet girl,” he would say, kissing her forehead. “It keeps the spasms away.”
He wasn't giving her pain medicine. He was dosing her with a synthetic paralytic every twelve hours for three years.
Clara slowly raised her head. The ballroom around her seemed to blur—the guests, the flowers, the white silk dress. She looked at her father.
"Clara," Arthur said, his eyes wide, stepping closer and reaching out his hand. "Listen to me. You don't understand the complex medical context—"
"Why?" Clara’s voice was small, but it cut through the room like shattered glass.
"Clara, sweetie, let's go upstairs to the private suite—"
"WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME?!" Clara screamed, her voice exploding with three years of repressed grief, fear, and helplessness.

The room erupted into absolute chaos. Reporters bypassed the security rope, cameras flashing rapidly. Guests stood on chairs, whispering frantically.
Leo, still pinned to the floor by guards, managed to turn his head toward the press. "The Clara Sterling Trust isn't researching a cure!" Leo yelled into a nearby reporter's boom mic. "Arthur Sterling used his daughter’s fake paralysis to raise three hundred million dollars, tax-free, to fund his illegal off-book offshore holdings in the Cayman Islands! And when my father found out Clara was fully healed two years ago, Arthur had him murdered!"
