Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Execution

By 1:00 PM, the news of Adrian Vaughn’s downfall had turned from a Wall Street rumor into a category-five financial hurricane.
The stock of Vaughn Dynamics had plummeted seventy-four percent before trading was halted by the New York Stock Exchange. Cable news channels displayed side-by-side photos of Adrian’s polished corporate headshot next to a leaked cell phone video from the previous night—a high-definition video showing him shoving the cake into his pregnant wife's face.
The caption scrolling across the bottom of the screen read: 'CAKE-GATE: VAUGHN DYNAMICS CEO ACCUSED OF ABUSE AS EMPIRE COLLAPSES.'
Inside the glass-walled executive boardroom on the 40th floor of the Vaughn Dynamics Tower, the air was thick with panic. Twelve board members, along with the company's senior executive team, sat around the long conference table, screaming at each other over overlapping phone calls.
"Where is Adrian?!" one investor shouted, slamming his fist onto the table. "The SEC is executing a search warrant on our accounting floor right now!"
"He isn't answering his phone!" the CFO yelled back, wiping sweat from his forehead. "His driver said he was dropped off at his lawyer's office two hours ago!"
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.
The room fell instant, dead silent.
Walking into the room, flanked by two senior partner attorneys and four security officers, was Vivian.
She was dressed in an impeccably tailored navy suit that accentuated her posture, her dark hair pulled back into a sleek, professional bun. She showed no signs of the exhausted, humiliated woman from the night before. Her skin was radiant, her eyes sharp as diamond blades, and her hand rested comfortably over her visible pregnancy.
Behind her walked her father, Arthur Blackwood. He didn't say a word; he simply stood near the door, his imposing presence looming over the room like an absolute judgment.
"Good afternoon, gentlemen," Vivian said, taking her seat at the head of the boardroom table—the seat that had belonged to Adrian for five years.
The CFO stammered, looking around nervously. "Vivian... Mrs. Vaughn... what are you doing here? This is an emergency board meeting for executive directors only."
"I know," Vivian replied smoothly, pulling a thin tablet from her leather briefcase. "And as of forty-five minutes ago, I am the sole trustee of Blackwood Holdings, which has just executed its contractual right to convert forty million dollars of default debt notes into voting equity. I now hold fifty-two percent of the voting shares in Vaughn Dynamics."
Gasps rippled across the table. Two board members slumped back in their chairs, their faces draining of color.
"Where is Adrian?" an investor asked in a trembling voice.
"Mr. Vaughn's executive credentials have been permanently revoked," Vivian declared, tapping her tablet screen. "A formal motion is now before this board to fire Adrian Vaughn as Chief Executive Officer for cause, effective immediately, without severance, and to replace him with an interim management committee appointed by Blackwood Capital."
Before anyone could second the motion, the boardroom door slammed open once again.
Adrian burst into the room.
His suit was rumpled, his hair was messy, and his eyes were wild with rage and desperation. He was being pursued by two building security guards who looked terrified to touch him.
"Vivian!" Adrian roared, pointing a shaking finger at her. "What the hell are you doing?! You can't do this to me! I built this company! My name is on the building!"
Vivian didn't flinch. She didn't even stand up. She looked at him with an expression of quiet, detached pity.
"Your name was on the lease, Adrian," Vivian corrected him gently. "And the lease was paid for by my family’s trust. A trust that you systematically defrauded to inflate your IPO valuation."
"I did everything for us!" Adrian screamed, taking three steps toward the table before Arthur Blackwood moved silently into his path, blocking him with six feet four inches of unyielding stone.
Adrian froze, coming face-to-face with the legendary billionaire.
"Step back, boy," Arthur said softly, his voice echoing through the silent boardroom. "You are speaking to the majority shareholder."
Adrian swallowed hard, his chest heaving as he looked past Arthur at his wife. "Vivian... please. Talk to me in private. We’re having a baby! You can't destroy our child’s future over a stupid argument at a party!"
Vivian stood up slowly, leaning her hands on the polished table, her eyes locking onto his with absolute clarity.
"My son's future was secured the day I was born, Adrian," Vivian said, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp whisper that carried across the room. "You were the one who had no future without me. You just didn't realize it until today."

She turned to the board. "All those in favor of terminating Adrian Vaughn immediately for cause, raise your hand."
Every single hand at the table went up.
