Chapter 6 - A Mother's Vow

Three weeks after the deposition, on a warm, clear night in early September, the private wing of Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan was under heavy security guard.

Inside a luxurious, sunlit private suite overlooking Central Park, Vivian lay in a wide hospital bed, holding a tiny, soft bundle wrapped in a cream-colored cashmere blanket.

The baby had soft dark hair, tiny delicate fingers, and clear, bright dark eyes that looked up at her with complete, innocent trust.

Standing beside the bed, looking down at his grandson with a rare, radiant smile, was Arthur Blackwood.

"He has your eyes, Vivian," Arthur said softly, reaching down with a large, weathered finger to gently stroke the baby's tiny cheek. "He looks like a Blackwood."

"His name is Leo," Vivian smiled, leaning her head back against the pillows, tears of pure joy glistening in her eyes. "Leo Arthur Blackwood."

"A strong name," Arthur approved, nodding deeply. "A name that will carry this family's legacy for the next fifty years."

A soft knock came at the door, and Elena Rostova stepped inside, carrying a small leather file.

"I apologize for interrupting, Mrs. Blackwood," Elena said respectfully. "I just received confirmation from the federal magistrate. Mr. Vaughn’s plea agreement has been formally executed. He has surrendered his passport, his corporate licenses have been permanently revoked, and he has relocated to a small township in upstate New York to work as a mid-level manager for an auto parts supplier."

Vivian looked down at her newborn son, who was sleeping peacefully against her chest.

"Does he have any contact rights?" Arthur asked sternly.

"None," Elena confirmed. "The court order is absolute. If he comes within five miles of Mrs. Blackwood or Leo, he will be arrested immediately without bail."

"Thank you, Elena," Vivian said gently. "You can close the file."

Elena bowed her head respectfully and stepped out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

Arthur sat down in the armchair beside the bed, holding his daughter's hand. "How do you feel, my dear?"

Vivian looked out the wide window at the sparkling lights of Manhattan below—the city where she had once felt small, hidden, and humiliated under the shadow of a cruel man. Now, the city belonged to her. The company was hers. Her life was hers.

"I feel free, Father," Vivian whispered, kissing her baby's forehead. "I feel completely free."
