Chapter 7 - The Mastermind Revealed

The ballroom was so quiet you could hear the hum of the air conditioning. Nobody moved. Nobody drank. Hundreds of high-society eyes were glued to the drama unfolding on stage.

Claire pulled the second document from the folder.

"Two weeks ago, after Tiffany announced her pregnancy," Claire continued, "Everett discreetly sent an amniocentesis sample to a private genetics lab to check if the child was his. The test came back with a zero percent probability of paternity."

Everett looked as if he had been struck by lightning. His mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out. He stared at Claire in horror. He had kept that secret locked in his safe; how could she possibly have it?

Tiffany’s face went dead white. She looked wildly between Everett and Claire. "Everett... what is she talking about? You tested my baby without telling me?"

"You knew the baby wasn't yours, Everett," Claire said, looking directly into his horrified eyes. "Yet you were willing to lie to your investors, your board of directors, and the entire public. You were going to pretend this child was your biological heir just to protect your fragile, pathetic pride!"

"Claire, shut up! SHUT UP!" Everett screamed, completely losing his composure. The polished billionaire was gone, replaced by a desperate, cornered animal.

"But the story doesn't end there," Claire said softly. She turned away from Everett and looked directly at Marcus Vance, who was standing frozen just three feet away from her.

Marcus tried to maintain a neutral expression, but a bead of sweat rolled down his temple.

"Because the question remained," Claire said, her voice dropping into a thrilling, dramatic crescendo, "who is the real father of Tiffany’s child?"

Claire pulled out the final document—the 99.98% DNA match report—and held it high.

"Three days ago, an independent lab processed a comparison between Tiffany’s baby and a DNA sample from Everett’s trusted Chief Operating Officer..."

Claire pointed her finger directly at Marcus Vance.

"...Marcus Vance."

The ballroom exploded into utter chaos.

Gasps, shouts, and sharp cries filled the air. Investors stood up from their tables in outrage. Photographers' flashes went off like blinding strobe lights.

Tiffany let out a horrified shriek, covering her face with her hands.

Everett slowly turned his head to stare at Marcus. The betrayal hit him with the force of a freight train. His eyes widened in absolute shock and rage.

"Marcus?" Everett whispered, his voice trembling with disbelief. "You?"

Marcus realized the game was completely up. The cool, calculated mask he had worn for years slipped away. He stepped back, looking at Everett with cold, disdainful contempt.

"You really thought she loved you, Everett?" Marcus spat, dropping all pretense of loyalty. "You’re sixty years old, arrogant, and blind. You treat everyone around you like disposable assets. Tiffany and I have been together for a year. We were going to take everything you built—your company, your legacy, your money—and hand it to my son."

"You bastard!" Everett roared.

Everett lunged off the stage, throwing his weight at Marcus. The two men crashed onto the polished marble floor in front of five hundred elite guests and live television cameras, tearing at each other’s tuxedos in a frantic, undignified brawl.

Glasses shattered. Women screamed. Security guards finally rushed in, frantically trying to pull the two fighting executives apart.

Claire stood just inches away from the chaos, completely untouched, perfectly composed. She looked down at Everett struggling on the floor, his face red, his expensive suit ripped, his dignity ruined beyond repair.

She didn't feel anger anymore. She didn't feel pain. She only felt a profound, overwhelming sense of liberation.

Claire closed her velvet folder, turned her back on the nightmare she had left behind, and calmly walked out of the Grand Ballroom.
