Chapter 6 - The Four Miracles

Back on the north side of Chicago, the autumn leaves turned brilliant shades of gold and crimson, painting the quiet streets in warm hues.

Inside Olivia’s apartment, the nursery was a haven of soft pastel blues and creams. Four cribs stood in a neat row, filled with four very active, healthy six-month-old babies who were discovering the joy of rolling over and babbling at the ceiling mobile.

Olivia sat on the rocking chair, holding little Noah in her arms while Liam crawled energetically across the plush rug, trying to catch a bouncy red ball.

A soft knock at the door broke her concentration.

She stood up, cradling Noah against her shoulder, and opened the door. Standing on the porch was Sarah Chen, holding a large box of gourmet pastries and a bottle of celebratory champagne.

"Delivery for the CEO and mother of the year," Sarah announced with a bright grin, pushing past her into the kitchen.

"You didn't have to bring champagne, Sarah. You know I can barely stay awake past nine o'clock," Olivia laughed, setting Noah down on his play mat beside his brother and sister.

"This isn't just any champagne," Sarah said, popping the cork with a satisfying pop and pouring two glasses. "This is official closure champagne."

Olivia paused, turning around sharply. "What happened?"

Sarah beamed, handing Olivia a formal legal document. "Ethan’s defense counsel just formally withdrew all motions to contest the asset seizure and corporate transfer. Furthermore, Ethan agreed to a permanent, unrestricted surrender of all parental rights, acknowledging sole custody to you with zero visitation rights."

Olivia let out a breath she felt like she had been holding for nine months. A profound wave of relief washed over her chest, lighter than air.

"He signed it?" she asked softly.

"Without a fight," Sarah nodded. "He realizes he has no leverage left. He’s looking at twelve to fifteen years in federal prison without parole. His lawyers advised him that signing away his parental claims was the only way to avoid maximum sentencing enhancements."

Olivia looked down at her four children. Liam was giggling as Ava grabbed his rattle, while Grace and Noah slept peacefully side by side.

"They will never know what it feels like to be lied to, hidden, or treated like a burden," Olivia whispered, tears of joy filling her eyes.

"They won't," Sarah said, wrapping her arm around Olivia’s shoulders. "Because you protected them when you had nothing, Liv. You gave them a future."
