Chapter 10 - The Wedding on the Lawn

The wedding took place on a golden afternoon in late June, right on the manicured lawn of their Oak Brook estate.

White silk marquees fluttered softly in the warm summer breeze. A string quartet played delicate classical melodies beside a archway woven with white roses and eucalyptus leaves.

Dozens of close friends, community members, and Marcus Vance sat in the white garden chairs, smiling as the sun dipped toward the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber, pink, and gold.

Grant stood at the alter under the rose archway, looking incredibly handsome in a tailored navy tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus Vance as his best man.

Leo and Ethan stepped down the aisle first, looking sharp in matching mini-tuxedos, carrying the velvet ring pillow.

Next walked six-year-old Lily, wearing a fluffy white flower-girl dress, tossing pink rose petals onto the green grass with a triumphant grin.

And then the music swelled.

Emma walked down the aisle.

She took everyone’s breath away. She wore a timeless, off-the-shoulder silk wedding gown that flowed elegantly over her slight bump. Her hair was styled in soft waves, decorated with delicate pearl pins. She carried a bouquet of white peonies and lavender.

She walked down the aisle alone—not because she had no one to walk her, but because she was a woman who had walked through the darkest valley on her own feet and emerged victorious.

Grant watched her approach, tears flowing freely down his face, his heart beating with wild, unadulterated devotion.

When Emma reached the altar, Grant stepped forward and took both of her hands in his.

The minister smiled warmly at the couple. “We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of two souls who have proven that true love, when tested by fire, does not burn... it purifies.”

When it came time for the vows, Grant looked directly into Emma’s eyes, holding her hands tightly.

“Emma,” Grant said, his deep voice carrying softly across the quiet lawn. “Five years ago, I was blind. Today, I see clearly. You gave me back my soul. You gave me my children. You showed me what it means to love without fear. I promise to honor you, protect you, and cherish you every second of my life, through every storm and every sunshine, forever and always.”

Emma smiled through her tears, her voice steady and full of warmth.

“Grant,” Emma said softly. “We walked through fire to get to this altar. But standing here today, holding your hands, looking at our children, I know that every tear was worth this moment. You fought for us. You earned your way back into my heart. I am yours, completely, for all the days of my life.”

“By the power vested in me,” the minister beamed, “I now pronounce you husband and wife! Grant, you may kiss your bride!”

Grant pulled Emma into his arms, dipping her slightly as his lips met hers in a passionate, beautiful kiss.

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and whistles!

Leo, Ethan, and Lily ran up, wrapping their arms around their parents’ legs, laughing happily under the shower of white rose petals thrown by the guests.

Grant lifted Lily onto his shoulder, held Emma’s hand tightly in his, while Leo and Ethan walked beside them back up the aisle into the warm, golden evening light.
