Chapter 10 - The Ultimate Triumph

One Year Later.

The warm summer sun glistened off the emerald lawn of my new lakefront home in Evanston.

It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Music played softly through outdoor speakers near the terrace, and the scent of grilled seafood and fresh flowers filled the air.

I stood on the stone patio, holding a glass of iced white wine, taking in the magnificent view of Lake Michigan.

Beside me stood Liam Thorne—a brilliant, kind-hearted architectural engineer who had designed my new corporate offices six months ago. Over the past year, our professional collaboration had naturally, beautifully blossomed into a deep, respectful, and genuine love—a relationship built on true equality, transparency, and mutual admiration.

Liam slid his arm gently around my waist, pulling me close and pressing a soft kiss against my temple.

“Happy, sweetheart?” Liam asked softly, his blue eyes warm and full of affection.

“Completely,” I smiled, resting my head against his shoulder.

Across the lawn, Clara was laughing with Sophia and my agency team, setting up a volley-ball net near the water. Her life was thriving, her family was whole, and she had recently joined my foundation as a board director helping victims of domestic and financial abuse start new lives.

My phone vibrated softly on the patio table.

It was a news alert from The Chicago Tribune:

“Former Executive Marcus Vance Sentenced to 16 Years in Federal Prison; Parents Receive 9-Year Terms for Fraud Syndicate.”

I glanced at the screen for a brief second. There was no hatred in my heart, no lingering bitterness, no desire to dwell on the dark past. The monsters were locked away where they belonged, and their nightmare was ancient history.

I closed the news app, turned my phone face down on the table, and took Liam’s hand in mine.

“Come on,” I smiled, pulling Liam toward the lawn where Clara and my friends were calling for us. “Let's go play.”

I walked out into the warm sunshine, surrounded by real love, true friendship, and absolute freedom, knowing that I had written my own destiny—and the best was yet to come.
