Chapter 2 - The Audit Begins

By 3:00 AM, the Vance Estate was deathly quiet.
The forty guests had been marched off the property in the pouring rain, their private drivers turned away at the locked gates. My mother, brother, and sister had been confined to the secondary pool house under armed guard while my legal and security teams worked through the night.
I sat in the master study on the third floor. The room was illuminated only by the glow of three high-definition monitors resting on my mahogany desk. Beside me sat Marcus, along with Sarah Vance—no relation, but the sharpest forensic accountant in the country and a woman I trusted with my life.
"Here is the primary summary, Julian," Sarah said, tapping her tablet to stream data onto my central monitor. "Over the past eight months—coinciding exactly with when you launched the four-month Asia-Pacific expansion project—Evelyn and Tristan systematically altered the estate's administrative power of attorney."
I leaned forward, my jaw clenched so hard my muscles throbbed. "How did they alter it without my primary biometric signature?"
"They forged Clara’s signature," Sarah revealed, pulling up a digital scan of a legal document. "Because Clara was listed as secondary trustee on the residential holdings, they used a combination of psychological coercion, isolation, and fraudulent legal filings to register Sienna as Clara's 'designated medical proxy.' They claimed Clara was suffering from severe early-onset cognitive decline."
A cold, terrifying chill ran down my spine. "Cognitive decline?"
"Look at the medical records filed six months ago with the county court," Marcus interjected grimly, sliding a physical file across the desk. "They hired a dirty private doctor—a Dr. Robert Sterling—who issued three separate prescriptions for heavy sedatives under Clara’s name. They weren't just making her clean the house, Julian. They were drugging her."
I slammed my fist onto the desk with enough force to crack the glass blotter cover.
The pieces of the nightmare finally fell into place. The blank, vacant fear in Clara’s eyes when I found her at the sink. Her trembling hands. Her confusion about the time of day. They hadn't just humiliated her; they were systematically breaking her mind so she couldn't reach out to me, couldn't leave the estate, and couldn't protest as they siphoned tens of millions of dollars out of my personal accounts.
"Where is Dr. Sterling right now?" I asked, my voice dropping into an icy register.
"He’s currently at a private casino in downtown," Marcus answered. "My team has had him under surveillance since two AM."
"Bring him here," I ordered. "And tell him if he doesn't bring Clara's complete medical file, he won't be leaving in an ambulance—he'll be leaving in a police cruiser."
"Right away, sir," Marcus bowed and stepped out of the study.
Sarah swiped to the next slide on the monitor. "It gets worse, Julian. The money wasn't just being spent on parties, clothes, and cars. Tristan has been funneling capital into a shell corporation registered in the Cayman Islands named Vance Legacy Holdings. Over fourteen million dollars has been drained from your personal liquidity reserves."
"Fourteen million?" I repeated.
"And the primary signatory on that Cayman account," Sarah said, looking me straight in the eyes, "isn't Tristan. It's Don Emilio—the man your mother invited to the ballroom tonight. They were preparing to sell forty percent of Vance Global’s domestic real estate holdings out from under you while you were trapped in Tokyo dealing with the manufactured supply chain crisis."
I sat back in my leather chair, taking a slow, deep breath.
The Asia crisis hadn't been an accident. My mother, brother, and their criminal associates had deliberately engineered a logistics nightmare in Tokyo to keep me overseas for four straight months. They thought four months would be enough time to drug my wife, steal my real estate, and secure power of attorney before I realized what was happening.
They thought I was just a businessman who cared about balance sheets.
They forgot that before I was a CEO, I was a man who built an empire from nothing by destroying every predator that stood in my way.
"Sarah," I said quietly.
"Yes, Julian?"
"Call my chief corporate litigation attorney, David Vance. Tell him to prepare asset freeze petitions for every bank account bearing the names Evelyn, Tristan, or Sienna Vance."
May you like
"And the shell company?" Sarah asked.
"Tell David we are filing federal racketeering, wire fraud, and attempted murder charges by eight o'clock tomorrow morning."
