Chapter 3 - Broken Porcelain and Healing

At 4:30 AM, I stepped quietly into the guest suite.
The room was warm, filled with the soft glow of a bedside lamp. Clara was curled up in the center of the plush king-sized bed, wrapped in the cashmere blanket I had placed over her shoulders earlier.
She wasn't sleeping. Her wide, dark eyes were fixed on the French doors leading out to the balcony, her small body trembling every time the wind rustled the trees outside.
When she heard my footsteps, she instinctively shrank back against the headboard, her hands flying up to cover her head.
"I'm sorry!" she whimpered, her voice raspy and dry. "I'll clean the floors again... please don't lock the pantry... I'm sorry..."
The sight ripped through my soul like a hot blade.
I dropped to my knees beside the bed, keeping my hands visible, moving slowly so I wouldn't startle her. "Clara... sweetie, look at me. It's Julian. It's your husband."
She blinked, her eyes unfocused, swimming in a haze of fear and chemical lethargy. "Julian...?"
"Yes, baby. It's me," I whispered, reaching out gently until my fingers touched hers. "No one is locking any doors. No one is making you clean anything. You are safe. I am right here."
Slowly, as if breaking through a thick underwater fog, Clara recognized my face. The terrified tension in her shoulders snapped, and she burst into deep, heart-wrenching sobs.
I climbed onto the bed, pulling her frail body against my chest. She buried her face in my shoulder, clutching my jacket with a desperate, white-knuckled grip, weeping so heavily her whole body shook.
"They... they told me you hated me, Julian," she sobbed into my collar, her tears soaking into my shirt. "Your mother... she brought those doctors... they gave me those blue pills every morning... they said if I didn't take them, they would tell the press I was crazy and ruin your company..."
"Shh, I know, my love. I know," I murmured, kissing her wet cheeks, her forehead, her hair. "They lied to you. Every single thing they said was a lie."
"I tried to call you..." Clara choked out, reaching into her pocket with trembling fingers. She pulled out an old, cracked smartphone with a shattered screen. "Sienna smashed my phone... she said you changed your number... she said you were marrying Don Emilio's daughter in Tokyo..."
I grabbed the shattered phone from her hand, my heart breaking all over again. Sienna had systematically isolated Clara, destroyed her communications, and fed her psychological poison for one hundred and twenty days.
"Look at me, Clara," I commanded gently, holding her face between my palms, forcing her to look into my eyes. "Look at my eyes."
She focused on me, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
"I have never stopped loving you for a single second of my life," I swore, my voice thick with emotion. "You are my wife. You are the owner of this house, the owner of my company, and the owner of my heart. What those monsters did to you will be paid back a thousand times over. Do you understand me?"
Clara looked at me, seeing the absolute, fierce, protective fury in my eyes—the same fire she had seen ten years ago when I fought off corporate vultures to protect our small dream.
She nodded slowly, a tiny, fragile spark of life returning to her pale face. "I... I believe you, Julian."
I reached into my inner jacket pocket and pulled out the velvet jewelry box I had brought back from Tokyo. I opened the latch.
Inside, resting on black velvet, was a flawless, fifty-carat raw-cut diamond necklace—a one-of-a-kind masterpiece named The Star of Kyoto, crafted by Japan’s greatest living jeweler. It caught the soft lamp light, throwing brilliant, dazzling spectrums of light across the white bedsheets.
Clara gasped softly, her hand rising to her mouth. "Julian... it's... it's too much..."

"It’s not enough," I said softly, lifting the heavy platinum chain and gently securing it around her neck. The brilliant diamond rested against her chest, a stark, radiant contrast to her simple cotton gown.
"You are the queen of this house, Clara," I whispered, kissing her lips softly. "And tomorrow morning, the kingdom comes back to you."
