Chapter 19 - The Gathering under the Oaks

A year passed, a beautiful, fluid cycle of seasons that brought healing, growth, and a profound sense of permanence to the Coyoacán mansion. The Fundación Mateo had successfully reunited over forty families, turning Mariana’s private victory into a national movement of justice.

To celebrate the anniversary of the foundation and Mateo’s eighth birthday, the high iron gates of the estate were thrown wide open for a grand garden party. There were no politicians, no elite corporate executives, and no media cameras allowed.

Instead, the sweeping lawn was filled with the laughter of children—the very children the foundation had helped rescue. Sofia was there, sitting on a blanket beneath a massive oak tree, her little daughter laughing as she chased Toby across the soft grass.

Javier stood by the brick barbecue pit, laughing with Marco and Officer Lucia as they prepared fresh tacos and poured ice-cold hibiscus water for the guests. The atmosphere was light, vibrant, and filled with a deep, unshakeable joy.

Sarah and Luca Moretti, who had flown in from their Michigan estate to support their dear friends, stood on the terrace with Mariana, watching the crowd.

"You built a beautiful kingdom here, Mariana," Sarah said softly, her dark eyes warm with admiration. "It feels like the light has completely taken over."

"It took a lot of people holding the flashlights for me, Sarah," Mariana replied, looking over at Javier, who caught her eye and blew her a kiss from across the yard. "I didn't do this alone."

"The important thing is that the foundation is solid," Luca said, his deep voice carrying a comforting weight. "An empire built on fear collapses the moment the fear is gone. A home built on love just keeps expanding."
