Chapter 7 - The Heist of Aurora National

The plan was highly risky, but it was our only shot.

Using Colonel Vance's advanced surveillance tech, we intercepted Evelyn's communications. She was frantic, berating her security team for losing us. We leaked a false tip through a compromised channel, suggesting we were fleeing toward the Canadian border.

As expected, Evelyn dispatched her main security force north. The bank would be lightly guarded.

At 2:00 AM, under the cover of a massive blizzard, Vance’s team disabled the security cameras of the Aurora National Bank using a localized EMP.

Laura and I, dressed in dark tactical gear provided by Vance, entered through the roof access. My heart hammered in my chest, but I kept my focus. I was doing this for Sophie.

We slipped down the elevator shaft and into the secure basement where the vault was located. The vault door was a massive, steel behemoth.

"The biometric keycard," I whispered.

Laura pulled out a replicated keycard. Using a high-resolution photo of Evelyn's fingerprint we had obtained from a glass at her house, Vance's tech team had created a synthetic latex print. Laura pressed the synthetic print onto the scanner.

The light turned from red to yellow.

Access Granted.

The heavy steel door groaned and swung open. Inside, rows of safe deposit boxes gleamed under the emergency lights. We found Evelyn's box—Number 104.

Using a specialized lockpick tool, I bypassed the physical lock. The door clicked open. Inside was a thick manila envelope labeled: LAURA - CONFESSION.

I pulled it out. Beside it was another folder. This one was labeled: POLICE CHIEF HARRIS - PAYROLL.

"Jackpot," I whispered.

Suddenly, the alarm klaxons began to wail. The EMP’s effect had worn off.

"We have to move!" Laura yelled.

As we sprinted back toward the elevator shaft, the doors slid open. Standing there, flanked by three armed guards, was Police Chief Harris himself.

"Drop your weapons," Harris sneered, raising his pistol. "You're under arrest for bank robbery."
