Chapter 4 - The Legal Wolf

Instead of leaving, Evan called a high-priced defense attorney. By Monday afternoon, I received an emergency court summons. Evan was suing for temporary custody of Noah, claiming Delilah had kidnapped the boy and was mentally incompetent, citing her "homeless status" as proof.
I sat in the office of Arthur Vance, the fiercest family law and forensic attorney in Columbus. I laid out the manila folder.
"They're playing dirty, Karen," Arthur said, reviewing the forged signatures and the photos of Delilah’s bruises. "They think they can scare her into a settlement. If we go to court on Wednesday for the emergency custody hearing, we need to strike hard. We can't just defense-play this. We need to destroy them."
"What do we need?" I asked.

"We need the notary," Arthur said. "If we get the notary to admit Beatrice paid him to forge your signature, the fraud case blows wide open. The custody suit will collapse instantly because a judge won't give a child to a felon."
"I'll get the notary," I said.
