Two weeks later, the preliminary trial began. Eleanor and Julian were charged with attempted murder, aggravated domestic assault, grand larceny, and corporate espionage. Denied bail due to flight risk, they wore orange jumpsuits instead of tailored suits.
Their legal defense tried to play the mental incompetence card, claiming Eleanor suffered from early-onset dementia and Julian was under her undue influence.
Clara, now regaining her strength under top-tier medical care, insisted on testifying. Supported by my arm, she walked into the courtroom looking regal and dignified.
When she took the stand, Eleanor’s attorney attempted to cross-examine her aggressively, implying she married me for money. Clara looked straight at the jury with absolute clarity.
