Chapter 9 - THE LESSON OF THE GLASS
Two years later.
It was a bright, warm Saturday morning at a private vineyard in the Texas Hill Country.
The vine-covered pergola overlooked miles of rolling green hills, bathed in golden sunlight. Wildflowers danced in the warm afternoon breeze.
Seventy close friends and family members sat in white wooden chairs along a grassy aisle.
Sitting in the front row was Gerald Hayes, wearing a proud, grandfatherly smile, alongside Megan’s core team of women from her foundation and business entities.
At the front of the altar stood Julian Thorne, looking striking in a tailored dark grey suit, his eyes fixed on the end of the aisle.
The string quartet began to play a soft, lyrical melody.
Megan stepped onto the aisle.
She wore a simple, breathtaking silk sheath dress that caught the sunlight. She didn't wear a heavy veil or hide her face. Her head was held high, her eyes shining with clarity, peace, and profound joy.
She walked down the aisle alone—not because she had no one to walk her, but because she was a woman who owned her own path, made her own choices, and entered this partnership as a whole, triumphant human being.
When she reached the altar, Julian stepped forward, taking both of her hands in his. His hands were warm, strong, and steady.
"You are the strongest, most extraordinary woman I have ever known," Julian said, his voice thick with genuine emotion as they exchanged their vows. "I don't need you to fix my life, Megan. I just want to stand beside you while you continue to change the world."
Megan smiled, a tear of pure happiness slipping down her cheek.
"I spent a long time believing that love was something you earned by sacrificing yourself," Megan said softly, looking into Julian’s eyes. "Thank you for showing me that true love is simply finding someone who honors the light inside you."
