Chapter 7 - The Rage of a Father

When Ryker arrived at the scene ten minutes later, the quiet country road was filled with flashing red and blue lights from dozens of police cruisers.
Ryker stepped out of his car. His face was not expressive of fear or panic; it was a mask of sheer, absolute fury. The air around him was so toxic with rage that even the state police officers hesitated to approach him.
Marco, his head wrapped in bandages, stumbled over to Ryker, his voice choking with shame. "Boss... I failed you. I'm sorry... I'm so sorry. They took Lily. They left Owen..."
Ryker looked into the back of an ambulance, where Owen was sitting wrapped in a shock blanket. The little boy was hysterical, sobbing uncontrollably while holding his teddy bear.
Ryker walked over, stepped into the ambulance, and pulled Owen tight against his chest.
"I lost her, Daddy! I lost Lily!" Owen sobbed into Ryker’s suit jacket. "They took her!"
Hearing the word Daddy come from the boy's trembling lips tore through Ryker’s soul like a serrated blade.
"I will get her back, Owen," Ryker whispered, his voice trembling with a terrifying power. "I promise you on my life. No one touches my daughter and lives."
Ryker stood up and turned to Marco. "Who was it?"
"We identified the vehicle from satellite tracking," Marco rasped, holding a tablet. "It belongs to Marcus Kane’s syndicate. Kane was holding Vanessa’s debts. He thinks he can hold Lily hostage for twenty million dollars."
"Where are they?"
"An abandoned industrial shipyard on the South Side of Chicago," Marco replied. "The police SWAT team is setting up a perimeter, but they want to negotiate—"
"No police," Ryker interrupted coldly. "Cancel the SWAT team."
"Sir?"
"If police storm that building, Kane might panic and hurt her," Ryker said, his eyes burning with lethal intent. "Call our private tactical unit. Alpha and Bravo teams. Full combat loadout. We go in now."
"Understood, Mr. Steel."
Twenty minutes later, three sleek black armored vehicles roared down the freeway toward the industrial district.
Inside the lead vehicle, Ryker stripped off his suit jacket and strapped on a tactical Kevlar vest. He racked the slide of a heavy black handgun, his expression cold as stone.
For years, people had forgotten why Ryker Steel was so feared. Before he built his financial empire, Ryker had served eight years in the elite special forces, surviving missions in the darkest corners of the world. He was not just a businessman; he was a trained predator.
And someone had just taken his daughter.
At the abandoned shipyard, Lily sat tied to a wooden chair inside a cold, rusty warehouse. She was crying softly, her tiny shoulders shaking, but she remembered what Ryker had told her: “Be brave. Never give up.”
Marcus Kane, a heavily tattooed man in his fifties, sat across from her, smoking a cigar while looking at his watch.
"Don't cry, little girl," Kane chuckled cruelly. "Your rich adoptive daddy is going to bring me twenty million dollars real soon. You're my golden ticket."
Suddenly, the warehouse lights flickered and went completely dark.
The loud, deafening roar of a flashbang grenade exploded near the roof rafters.
BANG!
Blinding light and high-frequency sound shattered the darkness.
"What the hell?!" Kane screamed, dropping his cigar and drawing his gun. "Shoot anyone who comes through that door!"
Before his men could raise their weapons, the skylight windows shattered into a rain of glass.
Black-clad tactical operators rappelled down ropes, opening fire with suppressed weapons. Crimson sparks flashed in the dark as Kane’s henchmen dropped one by one.
Then, through the main steel doors, a figure walked into the middle of the gunfight.
It was Ryker.
He didn't take cover. He walked forward like an unstoppable force of nature, firing with lethal precision. Every bullet he fired found its mark, neutralizing threats before they could even draw a bead on him.
Kane, terrified by the sheer ferocity of the assault, grabbed Lily from the chair and pulled her in front of him as a human shield, pressing his revolver against her head.
"STAY BACK!" Kane shrieked, his voice cracking with utter terror. "STAY BACK OR I'LL BLOW HER HEAD OFF!"
The gunfire instantly ceased. The private tactical team raised their rifles, targeting Kane, but couldn't get a clean shot without risking Lily’s life.
Ryker stepped forward out of the shadows, dropping his empty magazine and slapping a fresh one into his hand with a crisp click.
His eyes locked onto Kane.
"Put the gun down, Marcus," Ryker said, his voice terrifyingly calm.
"I'll kill her, Steel! I swear to God I'll kill her! Give me a helicopter and fifty million, or she dies!" Kane screamed, his arm trembling violently.
Lily looked past the barrel of the gun and saw Ryker standing there. All her fear melted away.
"Daddy!" Lily cried out.
Hearing her call him Daddy, Ryker didn't hesitate.
In a fraction of a second, Ryker raised his weapon, leaned his head slightly, and fired a single shot.
BANG!
The bullet passed two inches above Lily’s right ear, striking Kane precisely between his eyes.
Kane’s eyes rolled back, and his body collapsed backward onto the cold concrete floor.
Before Kane’s body even hit the ground, Ryker rushed forward, caught Lily in his arms, and pulled her tight against his chest, shielding her eyes from the scene.

"I've got you," Ryker breathed, his body trembling as he held his little girl. "I've got you, baby. You're safe."
Lily wrapped her tiny arms around Ryker's neck, burying her face into his shoulder. "I knew you'd come for us, Daddy. I knew it."
