Chapter 8 - Rebuilding the Broken

The aftermath of the shipyard raid shook the criminal underworld of Chicago to its absolute core. Marcus Kane’s syndicate was completely dismantled overnight by federal authorities, using intelligence provided directly by Ryker's network. Vanessa Vance received a thirty-year prison sentence with no possibility of parole.
However, inside Steel Manor, the focus was not on revenge, but on healing.
The near-tragedy had brought the family closer than ever. Ryker realized that no amount of security could replace his personal presence. He officially resigned as CEO of Steel Enterprises, stepping down to become Chairman of the Board, delegating day-to-day operations so he could be a full-time father.
It was a crisp December morning. The estate was covered in a pristine blanket of white snow.
Ryker stood in the grand living room, helping Owen tie his small clip-on tie. Owen was wearing a miniature black tuxedo, while Lily wore a sparkling white dress with silver shoes, looking like a little princess.
"Do I look like you, Daddy?" Owen asked, proudly admiring himself in the full-length mirror.
Ryker knelt down, fixing the boy's collar. "You look much better than me, son. You look handsome."
Owen beamed with pride, throwing his arms around Ryker’s neck.
Lily came bounding across the room, holding a hand-painted card. "Daddy! Look! I made this for the judge!"
Ryker took the card. On the front was a crayon drawing of three people holding hands under a bright yellow sun: a tall man with black hair, a little boy holding a teddy bear, and a little girl with blonde curls. Written in wobbly letters at the bottom were the words: OUR REAL FAMILY.
Ryker felt a familiar sting in his eyes. He kissed the top of Lily's head. "She's going to love it."
Marco walked into the room, wearing a sharp suit with his sunglasses off. His head wound was fully healed.
"The motorcade is ready, Mr. Steel," Marco said with a warm smile. "The entire city is waiting."
Today was not just any day. Today was the final legal hearing for the permanent adoption of Lily and Owen Vance.
As they drove through the snowy streets of Chicago toward the courthouse, citizens stood on sidewalks holding signs of support. The story of the billionaire who stopped his private jet to save two abandoned twins, and then fought through hell to protect them, had inspired millions across the country.

When the limousine pulled up to the courthouse, hundreds of reporters and photographers gathered, but Ryker’s security team kept them at a respectful distance.
Ryker didn't sprint inside. He walked proudly up the marble steps, holding Lily’s hand in his right and Owen’s hand in his left, standing tall as a father leading his children into their new life.
